Darton College Pays Tribute To Armed Forces Veterans On November 6th, 50 veterans were the guests of honor to a Musi cal Tribute for their military service. The Darton College Choir under the direction of Jennifer Cowgill and Darton College Band under the di rection of Dr. Jeff Kluball presented the musical tribute presented in “Sousa Style”. Veterans and repre sentatives from World War I through Desert Storm from all branches of military service were present and recognized during the program. Following the program in the Darton Theatre, the veterans and 400 in attendance were hosted to a reception where Certificates of Ap preciation were presented to each veteran by Darton College. The trib ute featured various styles of mu sic from Sousa to Gilbert and Sullivan to historical speeches and the anthems of all the branches of military service. “This program illustrates our awareness and appreciation to those who have served this great country to protect the liberties which we hold so dearly. Their sacrifices and efforts are not forgotten. I encour age everyone to express their ap preciation to veterans for making our nation what it is today,” stated Dr. Jeff Kluball, Director of Mu sic. Several Darton students from Lee County participated in the program they are Dustin Williams, Nic Sheridan. Janice Smith, Brandon Blackburn, Josh Brown, Stanley Philips, Brooke Lovelle, Matthew Edwards, Jason Pfeiffer, and Amanda Edenfield. Cornerstone Ceremony Phoebe Putney will host a Cornerstone Ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday to extract a time capsule placed in the cornerstone of a building recently purchased by the hospital at 1104 N. Monroe Street. The congregation of the Christian Science Society Church placed the time capsule in the cornerstone in 1939. Members of the congregation will be present at the ceremony. The capsule is said to contain the St. James version of The Holy Bible, one of the first editions of the Christian Science Monitor titled, "Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures" dating to 1908; and a lecture given by Edward A. Kimball of Chicago and printed in 1899 in the Daily Interocean newspaper. The colonial style building was completed in 1939 and services were first held there on March 19 of the same year. The brick vaneer building is adorned with a semi-circle portico and contains an auditorium, vestibule, several classrooms and restrooms. Middle School Teacher Feature Jason Kennedy is an eighth grade English teacher at Lee County Middle School. He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from Georgia Southwestern and in December, a Masters in Education from Georgia Southwestern. This is his second year of teaching at Lee County Middle School. Mr. Kennedy’s wife is a teacher at Lee County Elementary School. Jason Kennedy's hobbies are reading, writing and collecting an tique books. In his spare time, he likes to goof off. drink coffee and read.
