Mike Sabot and WF Griffin are pictured with copies of the petition signed by Lee County
residents in opposition to having their garbage bills placed on their property tax statements.
Garbage F ee Petitions
Collected and Counted
WF Griffin and Mike
Sabot are currently in
the process of collecting
and compiling the signed
petitions to repeal the
ordinance passed by the
commissioners to place
garbage fees on property
tax bills. They expressed
optimism that they will
achieve their goal of
reaching the required
number of signatures
for Probate Judge John
Wheaton to call for a
special election for voters
to decide if the ordinance
should be repealed.
WF Griffin stated
“While the required
number of approxi
mately 3400 signatures is
important, there is much
more value in the citizen
having the opportunity
to express their views,
knowing they will not be
ignored. Obtaining the
signature is simply a mat
ter of getting the petition
to the people.”
The nine business
locations to obtain and
or to sign the petition
are EZ Mart on High
way 82, Mike’s Coun
try Store and Daniel’s
Aluminum on Philema
Road, Heldenberg Auto
Service and Katz Floor
Covering on Highway 19
South, Lee County Tax
Commissioner’s Office
and Lee County Ledger
in Leesburg, Sonya’s
and Smithville 66 in
Smithville.
For additional informa
tion or to obtain copies
of the petition, call WF
Griffin at 881-1614 or
Mike Sabot at 869-6802.

Bady Candidate For
Smithville Mayor
David Bady, a retired
Marine Gunnery Sergeant
and the father of two adult
children, is seeking the of
fice of mayor in Smithville.
Mr. Bady is a 1975
graduate of Lee County
High School. Following
graduation, he entered the
Marine Corps. While in
the Marines, he attended
Chaminade College in Ho
nolulu, Hawaii, San Diego
State University in San
Diego, California, Southern
University in Baton Rouge,
Louisiana and Campbell
University in North Caroli
na. He majored in education
at Darton College.
Issues that concern David
Bady include the recruit
ment of a discount dollar
store, sewage system, parks
and recreation, city person
nel and city
beautification.
Mr. Bady
feels that the
expansion of
businesses
in Smithville
to include a
discount dollar
store would
provide a great
er variety of products at a
lower price would stimulate
other business growth.
He feels the city’s sewer
system is lagging behind.
He noted that a great
number of homes are not
connected to the sewage
system despite the fact that
SPLOST funding has been
allocated.
He explained that it has
been said that nobody goes
to the park which is
a fair assessment. He
said that the park has
been neglected and
abandoned and is
unsafe. Some minor
improvement have
been made but not
enough to make it
safe and comfortable
for the citizens.
David Bady feels a com
plete and thorough evalua
tion needs to be made of the
city personnel. He believes
they could do more and
do a better job. He feels
that beautification of the
city should not be centered
around the city government
building and police station
but should begin at the city
limits.
