Ten Permits Issued For New Homes In August
During the month of Au
gust 2011, the Lee County
Building Permit Office is
sued nine permits for single
family dwellings in the
unincorporated area of Lee
County and one permit for
a new home in the City of
Leesburg.
The estimated construction
cost of the nine homes in the
unincorporated area of Lee
County was $1,043,945.00.
The construction cost for the
new home in Leesburg was
$77,250.00.
During August, one permit
was issued for a multi-fam
ily dwelling in the unincor
porated area of Lee County.

9-11 Remembrance Ceremony
At the end of the Mon
day’s Lee County School
Board meeting the board
approved a motion by Dr.
Robert A. Clay, Vice-
Chairman, to suspend their
pay for six board meetings.
This action relates to the
reduction of the number
of days that the school is
reduced and for which the
teachers’ pay has been
reduced six day from the
190 days for which they are
normally paid.
In other business, the
Lee County Board of
Education adopted the class
waiver supplied by the state
department of education.
Dr. Larry Walters, Super
intendent, told the board
members that the classes
were still under the state
mandated limits but were
approaching that number
thus the waiver may be
needed. He noted that the
waiver was the same that is
used throughout the state.
The current economic cli
mate dictates the use of the
class waiver.
On a report of SPLOST
collections. Dr. Walters ex
pressed optimism with the
just received proceeds from
the July SPLOST collec
tion. This July’s funds was
the highest since 2006.
The board approved the
list of athletics and aca
demic supplements for the
current school year. The
supplements were recom
mended by the superinten
dent.
While the board reviewed
the food service report,
they discussed the percent
age of high percentage of
participation in the lunch
program by the students.
The middle school has a 92
percent participation rate of
students eating lunch.
The board approved out-
of-state trips for the high
school speech and debate
team. They will participate
in tournaments at Samford
University in Birmingham,
Alabama September 23 and
24 and at Blue Key - LTni-
versity of Florida October
28 - 30. Tom Matheny,
Cross Country Coach,
received approval for his
team to participate in the
Girl Inc. 5K road race
in Panama City, Florida
October 7.

Heritage Lane,
across from Publix.

location. Guests
were treated to boiled peanuts and lemonade, as well as, a nice rain gauge. The new
branch is open Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. - 6 p.m. and Saturday from 9 a.m. -1 p.m.

will meet
Thursday,
County Commission Hears Update
On Capital Improvement Plan
Bill Ross, of Ross and
Associates, presented
the commissioners with
an update on the Capital
Improvement Element of
Fee County Comprehensive
Plan during their meeting
Tuesday night, September
13.
The purpose of a capi
tal improvement Element
(CIE) is to establish where
and when certain new
capital facilities will be
provided within the county.
It also defines how they
may be financed through an
impact fee program.
The plan defines the
geographic area in which
public facilities provides
services and the level of
service to be provided.
The future growth projec
tion shows that Fee County
should reach a population
growth to 62,338 by 2026.
At that time, Feesburg’s
population should be 4,824
and Smithville’s population
will be 1,068.
The commissioner heard
a report from the planning
department on the Trans
portation Improvement
Act. With the approval of
additional SPFOST sales
tax for transportation. Fee
County will received major
road improvements to meet
the transportation needs of
the community.

rector of Planning, present
ed the commissioners with
a proposal from Georgia
Power for street lights at
the intersection of Hickory
Grove and Highway 82.
