Jackson William Lowe
Jackson William (Jack
Jack) Lowe, son of Bill and
Jessica Lowe of Leesburg,
died Friday September 29,
2011.
The funeral service was
Monday at Kimbrell-Stern
Funeral Directors with Rev.
Leigh Ann Raynor officiat
ing. The remains will be
cremated.
Other survivors include
a brother Austin Shiver,
maternal grandparents,
Tom and Janice Shanks of
Leesburg, and John and
Christine Pisarich of Al
bany, paternal grandparents,
Harry and Linda Lowe of
Albany. Aunts and uncles
also survive.

Tom Smith
Mr. Tom Smith, 64, of Lee
County died Friday Sept
30,2011 at Phoebe Putney
Memorial Hospital.
A memorial service
was held Sunday at
Kimbrell-Stern. Rev. Ste
phen Pontzer officiated.
Born in Cape Girardau
Missouri, Mr. Smith lived
in Albany most of his life
where he retired from
Proctor and Gamble after
25 years of service. He also
retired from Civil Service
from the Marine Corp.
Logistics Base. Mr. Smith
was a Navy Veteran where
he served in Vietnam and
was a member of St. Teresa’s
Catholic Church.
Survivors include his wife
Sandy Smith of Leesburg; a
son Michael Smith and his
wife Stephanie of Leesburg;
a daughter Jennifer Fabbri
and her husband Paul of
Leesburg; a sister Melissa
Davidson of Arizona; six
grandchildren Tabitha
Baker, Samantha Ellis,
Chelsey Smith, Gage Wil
liams, Kayla Smith and
Bella Fabbri. One great
grandchild Milo Gerrick.

Mrs. Jo Ann Lowe Pitts,
73, of Albany died Saturday
Oct 1,2011 at The Willson
Hospice House.
A graveside funeral
service was held Tuesday at
Crown Hill Cemetery.
Born in Columbus, GA,
Mrs. Pitts lived in Albany
since 1958 where she retired
from the Dougherty County
School System. She gradu
ated from Columbus High
School and Georgia South
western College. Mrs. Pitts
was a member of the Golden
Key Club and H2U Palmyra
Medical Center.
Survivors include her chil
dren Mary Kathryn Green
and her husband Jimmy of
Leesburg; Victor Lee Pitts
of Green Cove Springs, FL;
Kelli Jo Bagley and her hus
band Don of Albany, GA;
four grandchildren Lindsey
James and her husband
Randy Jack Stripling, Kayla
Bagley, and Brooke Bagley.

Mr. Giuseppe Magaddino,
died Thursday, September
29,2011.
His funeral mass was
Monday at St. Teresa’s
Catholic Church with
entombment in Crown Hill
Mausoleum.
A native of Sicily, Italy,
Mr. Magaddino had lived in
Albany for the last 7 years
moving from Nashville,
TN. He was a retired parts
manufacture and a mem
ber of St. Teresa’s Catholic
Church.
He was preceded in death
by his wife Rosa Magaddino
and son Salvatore Giuseppe
Magaddino.
Survivors include his
daughters, Caterina Oliveri
and husband Sal, Nashville,
TN, Gina Mannino and hus
band Vinny, Albany, Sara
LaMattina, Nashville, TN;
sons, Vito Magaddino and
wife Josephine, Lee County,
Vincenzo Magaddino and

A native of Baker Co., GA,
Mrs. Phillips had resided
in Albany, GA for the past
49 years. She was a home
maker and a member of East
Albany Baptist Church. She
was preceded in death by
three brothers, J.D. Casey,
William Casey and Leonard
Casey, two sisters, Agnes
Maples and Shirley Jones.
Survivors include, three
sons and their wives, Donnie
Phillips and Sheryl, Lee Co.,
GA, Mickey Phillips and
Smyrna, Jackson, GA and
Allan Phillips and Lynn,
Worth Co., GA, a brother,
Eugene Casey, Albany, GA,
eight grandchildren and
twelve great-grandchildren.

A native of Sherwood, TN,
Mrs. Rivers had resided in
the Leesburg, Albany area
since 1964 moving from
Burlingame, CA. She gradu
ated from Franklin County
High School in 1937, she en
rolled at Baroness Erlanger
School of Nursing in Chat
tanooga School of Nursing,
and received her degree in
1940. After some private
duty nursing, she enlisted in
the Army Nurse Corps in
May 15,1941 as an officer
and served until August
1944. She married Lt. (JG)
William Jacocks Rivers of
Pearl Harbor, T.H. on March
13,1944 and her subsequent
pregnancy ended her stint in
the US Army.
Mrs. Rivers was a 53 year
member and past Regent,
Vice Regent, and served
several terms as Treasurer of
the Thronateeska Chapter of
the Daughters of the Ameri
can Revolution, honorary
member of the Daffodil
Garden Club, Golden Key
Club, Albany Audubon
Society, The Flint River
Power Squadron Auxiliary
and the Holy Spirit Episco
pal Church in Dawson, GA.
She was preceded in death
by a son, William Jacocks
Rivers, Jr., a daughter, Mary
Elisabeth Rivers, her parents
James Wood and Laura Gar
ner Willis and a sister Annie
Laura Willis Prince.
Survivors include her
husband Ret. Commander
William J. Rivers, Sr., USN
of Leesburg, GA, two sons
William James Rivers of
Arnold, CA and Wilfred
Wilson Rivers of Burleson,
TX, a daughter, Suzanne
Rivers Purvis of Leesburg,
GA, seven grandchildren

children.

ville Lodge #195 F & AM
in Baxley, GA and was a
member of the Congrega
tional Methodist Church in
Milner, GA
Survivors include his

Paul Eames
Paul Eames, 84, of Albany,
died Monday, Ocotber 3,
2011 at Phoebe Putney Me
morial Hospital.
His memorial service will
be 2 PM Friday, October
7,2011 at Byne Memorial
Baptist Church. Mr. Eames’s
remains were cremated
and his cremated remains
will be buried at Crown
Hill Cemetery immediately
following the memorial ser
vice. The Rev. Clay Bowden
and the Rev. Matthew Nance
will officiate.
The family will receive
friends at Kimbrell-Stern on
Thursday from 6-8 PM.
Paul Eames was born in
Worcester, Mass., gradu
ated from Uxbridge High
School where he lettered
in baseball, football, and
basketball. After gradua
tion, he entered the U.S.
Army and was honorably
discharged. He moved to
Albany in 1950 when he
was assigned to the Albany
Cardinals of the Class D
Georgia-Florida League. He
played in the League until
1955; his last year was with
the Tifton, GA Blue Sox.
He started working with the
Albany Recreation Depart
ment in the off season in
1953. He became the City
of Albany Athletic Director
and remained with the city
for 28 years. Along with
his wife and family, he ran
the concession stands at
many ballparks in Albany,
sold Christmas Trees for 47
years, and ran the Hit and
Run Restaurant for 5 years.
He remained a reference
scout for the St. Louis Car
dinals for many years. He
was also a member of the
Albany Baseball Officiat
ing Association and would
umpire games during the
baseball season. He also
refereed football and bas
ketball games in the Albany
area for many years. He was
very proud of his associa
tion with the Walter Burt
American Legion Post 30
baseball teams and coached
them for 9 years. They won
back-to-back state champi
onships in 1961-1962. He
also coached the Deerfield
Windsor baseball team to
a state championship. He
was elected to the Albany
Sports Hall of Fame in 1991
and was also a member
of the Georgia-Florida-
Alabama Class D Minor
League Hall of Fame. The
City of Albany honored his
contributions to the youth
of Albany by naming its
baseball complex the Paul
Eames Sports Complex. Mr.
Eames often noted that his
greatest satisfaction from
athletics came from teach
ing the game. Many of his
former players, several who
went on to play professional
sports, attested to his ability.
Paul Eames was a longtime
member of Byne Memorial
Baptist Church and the A
and P Sunday School Class.
He enjoyed fishing. He
was preceded in death by
his parents, George Eames
and Edna Eames Merriam,
and by his son, Gary Alan
Eames.
He is survived by his wife
Dot Eames, Albany, whom
he married at home plate at
Cardinal Park on July 16,
1951; a son: Glenn Eames,
Albany; a daughter: Stacey
Eames, Atlanta; a grand
son: Andrew Paul Eames,
Reston, VA.

Richard Edward Adams
Richard Edward Adams
of Albany, Georgia passed
away at 9:12 P.M. on
Monday, October 3,2011 at
Willson Hospice House. He
was a loving husband, father
and grandfather, and fought
a long battle to stay with
his family. Richard was
born September 10,1943, at
Phoebe Putney Memorial
Hospital. He was preceded
in death by his parents,
Embrie Edward Adams and
Lucille Bailey Adams, his
sister Sara Jo Hall, grand
daughter Shannon Marie
Bowden, and Wes Hughes.
He is survived by his wife
of 48 years, Pat Adams,
his daughter Teresa Yvette
Adams, his son Richard
Embrie Adams, his two
granddaughters Paige and
Brandi Gavin, beloved
family members Billy and
Hazel Hughes and their
children Dal and Kay,
nephews Phil and Wyman
Hall, nieces Diane, Sherry,
and Vicki.
Richard began his career
with Oliver K. Lewis,
Consulting Engineers. He
was later employed as V.P.
of Lipsey Mechanical,
eventually becoming owner
from 1991 to 2008. Until his
death, he was employed by
Albany Air Conditioning
and Heating Co. Inc.
Richard enjoyed tennis
and bike riding, but his true
love was sailing and he was
often seen under full sail on
the waters of Lake Eufaula.
He was a friend to many on
the docks of Bagby State
Park, and he was never with
out a word to offer, a laugh,
and a smile. Mr. Adams was
a member of The Benevolent
and Protective Order of The
Elk Lodge # 713, The Loyal
Order of The Moose and
was a former Jaycee.
Memorial services will be
held Thursday at 3:00 PM
at Mathews Funeral Home.
The family will receive
friends one hour prior to the
service at the funeral home.

Lee County resident Ben Lockett, a member
of the Kiwanis Club of Dougherty County,
was honored recently as a recipient of the
Kiwanis Hixon Award, a prestigious distinction
afforded to a select few Kiwanians. The
honor represents a $1,000 donation made
by the club to the Kiwanis International
Foundation in Lockett’s name. Lockett, a
retired Secret Service agent who served on
presidential details from the Carter to the
Clinton administrations, is very active in
Dougherty County Kiwanis activities as well as
regional membership and new-club efforts. He
is also a Past Division 3 Lieutenant Governor
in Kiwanis’ Georgia District.
