Opening Day of Archery Deer Season is Sept. 10
Special to the Ledger
Archers will get the
first opportunity at
bringing home a deer
beginning Saturday,
Sept. 10, according to
the Georgia Department
of Natural Resources’
Wildlife Resources
Division.
Last year, 132,641 ar
chery hunters harvested
more than 66,039 deer.
Statewide, hunters can
use archery equipment
throughout the entire
2016-2017 deer season
(ending Jan. 8, 2017).
“The early part of ar
chery season occurs be
fore mature bucks shift
into their fall movement
patterns,” said state
deer program coordina
tor Charlie Killmaster.
“With their home range
near its smallest at this
time of year, hunters
should concentrate on
food sources closest to
thick cover for the best
chance at an early-sea-
son buck.”

Map: A new interactive
map has been created
for Georgia hunters
allowing hunters to see
the opportunities avail
able for the counties
they hunt. More info at

NEW: Georgia Game
Check: While deer
hunters have utilized a
deer harvest record in
the past (to record the
date and county of kill),
beginning this deer
season, all hunters on
both public and private
lands must record their
deer on the harvest
record AND report their
harvest using Georgia
Game Check. More info

State-managed public
hunting lands are fund
ed through a combina
tion of state license fees
and matching federal
funds from the U.S. Fish
& Wildlife Service’s
Wildlife Restoration
Program. Hunters ac
count for $977 million
in retail sales in Georgia
each year with a $1.6
billion ripple effect and
almost 24,000 jobs.
Many public lands
offer specialty hunts,
including primitive
weapons hunts, adult/
child hunts and ladies-
only hunts. Dates and
locations for these hunts

How Do You Sense
God’s Presence?
(Part 2 of 6)
“I feel God’s presence
in school,” says Ridge, 7.
“I feel God’s presence in
class.”
Ridge, if you can sense
God’s presence at school
in the second grade, you’re
light years ahead of where
I was at age 7.
The presence I recall
most vividly is that of the
principal trying to decide
what form of punishment
to inflict upon me for what
I considered to be creative
behavior.
Daniel, 9, provides us
an example of how God’s
presence in our conscience
can prevent us from doing
wrong: “I know when God
is around when I am alone
and about to do something
bad, but decide not to do
it.”
Those who understand
that God is ever present
also know that nothing
is hidden from his sight.
Do you have a secret?
Consider Jesus’ teaching:
“For nothing is secret that
will not be revealed, nor
anything hidden that will
not be known and come to
light” (Luke 8:17).
When Mikhail Gor
bachev started to introduce
reforms into the closed
society of the former
Soviet Union, he called it
“glasnost,” which is trans
lated “openness.” That
which had been hidden
and lied about, such as the
brutality of the Stalin
era, came to light.
Live today in the
light of God’s pres
ence and enjoy the
freedom of openness.
All of us have areas
of weakness, but we
don’t have to hide
them. Embrace the
once-for-all forgive
ness in the cross
of Christ, and then
determine to live
openly by confess
ing all known sin to him.
Agree with God that the
sin you committed was
judged at the cross, and
then embrace the Lord’s
resources to walk in the
light of his Word, his
Spirit and fellowship with
other believers.
Pollster George Gallup
once told me that Ameri
cans are the loneliest
people on Earth, according
to a Gallup Poll. He also
said that Christians who
meet regularly in small
groups live more meaning
ful lives. Gallup himself
has been meeting with a
small group of Christians
for many years. It’s hard to
experience God’s pres
ence when we’re trying
to live the Christian life
as the Lone Ranger. Jesus
established his church as a
meeting place for Chris
tians to encourage one
other.
“At
church
when
we are
singing, I
sometimes
close my
eyes,” says
Marlee,
10. “It is
really odd
because I
feel God,
sometimes
even in prayer. Em stand
ing firm on the ground and
suddenly something or
someone is pushing me. I
think sometimes, it is God,
or Jesus, or even an angel
saying something. I feel
the pushing quite often,
especially at church.”
Jesus said, “For where
two or three are gathered
together in my name, I am
there in the midst of them”
(Matthew 18:20).
We have this direct
promise from Jesus about
his presence in the midst
of believers gathered in
his name. Also, Scripture
records many instances
where God manifested
himself in special ways
when Christians gathered.
Maybe God has a special
way in which he makes his
presence known to you. If
that’s the case, don’t turn it
into a formula. And what
ever you do, don’t force
it on others. We can’t put
God in a bottle or package.
Some Christians run all
over the country looking
for formulas or blessings
associated with certain
movements, preachers or
cities.
Think about this: God
can come as a gentle dove
or mighty rushing wind. It
takes discernment to sense
his true presence.
Memorize this truth:
Matthew 18:20 quoted
above.
Ask this question: Do
you ever take time to seek
and sense God’s presence?

Seasons and Regulations
guide. Georgia offers
more than 100 state-op
erated wildlife manage
ment areas (WMAs) for
the public’s use.
Hunters are allowed
a season bag limit of
10 antlerless deer and
two antlered deer (one
of the two antlered deer
must have a minimum
of four points, one inch
or longer, on one side
of the antlers). Special
regulations apply to
archery-only counties
and extended archery
season areas. Coun
ties in the Metro At
lanta area (Clayton,
Cobb, DeKalb, Forsyth,
Fulton, Gwinnett, and
Rockdale counties) offer
either-sex archery deer

either sex may be taken
with archery equipment
at any time during the
deer season on private
land.
To pursue deer in
Georgia, hunters must
have a valid hunting

Special to the Ledger

Septem
ber.
Our month
of change.
Our month
of happy
change. Once
more we can
stand the
thought of
wearing a
older folks. They can sit
on the patio now even in
the afternoons. It’s
a time for bar
becued ribs and
football, and pick
ing fruit. On the
farms, the canning
pots are boiling
with treasures for
the coming winter.
September.
Time for the
Slim Randles
sweater as the summer Fall gather. Time to see
sun burns itself down.
Once again we can
think about a new year
at school, a new teacher.
Once again, the house is
ours ... and quiet during
the day.
September.
In the forest, the
animals are polishing
antlers, sleeking muscles
for the mating ruts to
come, marking their ter
ritories. The deciduous
trees are showing those
awesome changes of
color as the mountains
become a splendid quilt
of temporary beauty.
September.
A resting time for the
what’s out in those far
pastures. Time to brand
and work any late calves.
Time to sort those who
will stay and those who
will go to the sale. Time
to make money for the
ranch.
September.
Time to sit and sip
something hot and think
about things past and
yearn for certain future
things and to plan ...
plan how we can finish
this year in a better fash
ion than last year.

Training Our Future Leaders
By Shane Waller
Proverbs 22:6 (NASB)
Train up a child
in the way he
should go,
Even when he
is old he will not
depart from it.
Food to chew on:
When many
people have their
first child they
will do all kinds
of things to make
sure they are ready
to be equipped to
take care of that
new addition to their fam
ily. I mean there are how
to books, people giving
advice, and now videos
on the web. But we all
find out that being a par
ent just comes naturally.
When that new addition is
born we are so filled with
joy, there are nothing but
smiles in the room, and
we are proud of that baby.
As time goes by and they
get older we then learn
that they will grow up to
act like and mock what
they grow up watching.
I once heard someone
say that you don’t have
to worry about people
finding out if you live one
way at church and another
way ion the home, your
children will reveal this
by some of the things they
say and how they react
to things. Nobody likes
to be told how to raise
their children, I mean it’s
like one of the most used
quotes when we are told
how
to we
re
spond,
“don’t
tell
me
how
to
raise
my
child.”
Well
this
is not
just someone telling you
how to raise your chil
dren, this is the Word of
God. I’m guilty at times
of trying to be a micro
manager of how, what,
and when my children do
things. In my study of this
verse I found that being
this way can actually hurt
them in the long run. You
see when we train and
teach our children how to
make wise decisions, we
don’t have to watch every
little step they take, they
will be able to make wise
decisions on their own.
We can fall guilty of us
ing the statement, “I don’t
want you to make some of
the same mistakes that I
made.” But if we just con
tinue to just use that state
ment it doesn’t teach them
anything, it may even
make them more curi
ous and better at keeping
things from us. So this
verse instructs us to train
them up in the way they
should go. There is more
to it than just making sure
that they go to children’s
church, Sunday school,
and vacation bible school.
We must be spending the
time setting the bar high
because they are watching
every move we make. It
is vital especially for the
fathers to be in the chil
dren’s lives, a little boy
most of the time wants
to grow up to be just like
dad, and the little girl
eventually wants to meet
a gentleman that resem
bles her dad. Not leaving
the mothers out, children
learn so much from
mothers as well, such as:
affection, kindness, and
gentleness. This is why
we should be setting a
good example at all times
for our children. Children
will one day be our future
leaders, so its up to us to
train future leaders. One
of the thing I enjoy is my
morning ride to school
with my children, some
times they have some of
the weirdest questions, but
to know that first thing in
the morning I am blessed
with the opportunity to do
my best to answer them
questions. Also it gives
me the time and opportu
nity to share scripture and
sings songs of worship
with them. These are the
things they will hold in
their minds dearly. Ask
God to make you that
awesome example to them
and enjoy every mo
ment growing with them.
Remember scripture
commands us to praise
God in the mountain top
experiences and in the
experiences of the valley.
If they grow older and
stray, what you have in
stilled in them can never
be taken away. One of the
most important things we
can do is make sure our
children know how much
we love them and how
much God loves them
daily, we should pray with
our children daily, and
make sure no matter what
the excuse could is we are
in church with them every
time the doors are open.
Maybe you reading this
and the Lord is already
revealing to you some
areas that need attention,
or maybe you haven’t
been attending church
regularly or may not even
go to church. Well I’ve
got some awesome news,
there is still time to make
that change. Let today be
the day that you begin
to train your children up
in the way should go, so
when they get older they
will never depart from it.
''Train up a child in the
way they should go - but
be sure you go that way
yourself.” -Spurgeon-
“Each day of our lives
we make deposits in the
memory banks of our
children. ” -Swindoll-
