Deas also earned gifted

Reverend Lorenzo L. Heard
natural leader. He at
tended Fort Valley State
University, formerly
known as FVSC and,
after two years, trans
ferred to Morehouse
College in Atlanta. He
received a bachelor’s
degree in business man
agement from Albany
State University. He
is currently enrolled
at Mercer University’s
McAfee School of Reli
gion pursuing a Masters
of Divinity Degree.
With his outstanding
ability to lead and relate
to people and his com
mitment to community
and citizen building,
Rev. Heard, along with
others, has built an out
reach program for the
East Albany community
that is definitely mak
ing a difference in the
city. Since his arrival at
Greater Second Mt. Ol
ive Baptist Church, his
commitment to “Build
ing a Model Community
that in Turn Builds a
Model Church” can be
seen in building struc
tures and community
programs, but most of
all, in the changed lives
of people who have been
helped by the church
and the Community
Outreach Program.
He is leading his con
gregation and citizens
of the community to be
active in their commu
nities, civic organiza
tions, and in setting the
political agendas of the
city. He challenges them
to be conscious of world
and community issues
and to be proactive
instead of reactive about
how they will affect
their lives. He also chal
lenges everyone to be
involved in the political
system and agendas of
the city and the nation
by registering to vote
and attending communi
ty meetings to be aware
of the issues.
Through Mt. Olive
Community Outreach
Center, Inc., Rev.
Heard has paved the
way for many youths
to receive free tu
toring and academic
assistance through the
After-School Programs
that are held each week.
He also ensures that the
center provides a safe
haven for youth during
the summer months
through the Summer
Enrichment Camps.
Both of these services
have been offered by
the Center for the past
twenty-one years of his
leadership.
Understanding that
empowering our com
munity is essential to
the success or failure of
our people, Rev. Heard
has also developed
affordable rental and
home ownership pro
grams for low-moderate
income families. He
has done so much for so
many with such sincer
ity and humility that he
is often referred to as
a “Quiet Giant”. He is
a kind man with a true
pastor’s heart and love
for mankind.
He has authored two
books: Stuck in a Storm
and Missing Your Calm:
Discovering God’s
Purpose for Your Life
based on the Book of
Jonah and Lessons in
Money Management
which is comprised of
48 lessons about money
management based upon
scripture. The father of
three is married to Mrs.
Leslie Parrish Heard
and is the son of Mr.
and Mrs. McArthur and
Ira Heard and Reverend
and Mrs. Roosevelt and
Laverne Carter.
The LCHS Distin
guished Alumni Com
mittee is proud to recog
nize Lorenzo L. Heard
as a member of the 2019
Class of Distinguished
Alumni. The purpose of
this program is to recog
nize outstanding alumni
who have maintained a
high standard of excel
lence and distinguished
themselves through their
work, personal accom
plishments, or in the
lives of others. These
individuals exemplify
the ideals of the Lee

and the community it
serves, and thus serve as
role models for current
and future Lee County
High School Students.
