Trojans Blow Out Life Christian, 27-0
Lee Set to Take On #1 Peach
By Steve Glover
The Trojan Faith
ful Friday night were
treated to a 27 to 0
hard-fought victory
over a very talented
Life Christian team.
The win did take on a
sour note as the visitors
from Virginia turned
to some poor sports
manship as our Trojans
started to put the game
away. The all-star team
came into Lee County
High School stadium
never thinking that these
Georgia boys would
ever be able to dominate
them like our Trojans
did in every phase of
the game. When the
Virginia team took the
field, they looked like a
college-size team. Our
young Trojans showed
that they have plenty of
fight in them and sent
a message to the rest
of the state that, even
though we lost a lot of
players, we are ready to
make another title run.
The offense has yet to
hit its stride, but once
again were very effec
tive in putting up 27
points on a defense full
of Division 1 players.
Kyle Toole again was
effective with two TD
passes and Preston Sim
mons added another TD
on the ground. Beaver
would finish the night
with three for three on
field goals and two for
two on extra points.
Hopson would lead the
receiving core with 10
catches for 100 yards
and one TD with Tyrus
Washington catching a
quick slant from Toole
for another score.
Preston Simmons,
Christian Frazier and
Caleb McDowell would
combine for just 80
yards on the ground.
Dove Season Opens
Saturday, September 7
Special to the Ledger
The anticipation is
building, where will
you be on opening day?
Georgia’s dove hunting
season opens Sat. Sept.
7, 2019, according to the
Georgia Department
of Natural Resources’
Wildlife Resources
Division (WRD).
“Georgia offers more
than 50 public dove
fields and this is widely
considered one of the
best times of the year
to introduce someone
new to hunting,” said
Ted Will, Chief of WRD
Game Management.
“Additionally, this year,
in response to the desire
of hunters to end the
dove season later, recent
framework changes by
the U.S. Fish and Wild
life Service allowed us
to provide that opportu
nity until January 31.”
The official 2019-2020
dove seasons are Sept.
7-30, Nov. 23-Dec. 1 and
Dec. 6 - Jan. 31. Shoot
ing hours are noon until
sunset on opening day
(Sept. 7) and one-half
hour before sunrise to
sunset for the remainder
of the season dates.

Tips and Information:
• Dove Field Forecast
(https://georgiawildlife.
com/hunting/dove):
The dove field forecast
identifies available crops
and anticipated hunting
conditions for opening
day.
• Regulations Quick
Review: The daily bag
limit is 15 doves per
hunter. Collared doves
may be taken and do not
count toward your daily
limit. Shotguns must be
plugged to hold no more
than three shot shells
while hunting doves.
And, as always, hunters
must obtain permission
from landowners before
hunting on private prop
erty.
• Report Banded
Doves: In 2003, the
U.S. Geological Survey,
Biological Research Di
vision and the U.S. Fish
and Wildlife Service, in
cooperation with several
states, including Geor
gia, initiated an ongoing
dove banding project.
Hunters can participate
in this conservation
effort by examining
harvested doves for leg
bands and reporting
band numbers to the
USFWS at www.report-
band.gov.
• Private Field Plans?
Make Sure the Field is
Legal: Check out the
online brochure, “Dove
Hunting and Agricultur
al Practices in Georgia,”
available at http://geor-
giawildlife.com/migra-
tory-bird-info.
• Licenses Needed:
Hunters 16 years of age
and older need to have
a hunting license and
a Georgia Migratory
Bird Stamp. This stamp
is how Georgia par
ticipates in the federal
Harvest Information
Program (HIP). Some li
censes allow the license
holder to get the Georgia
Migratory Bird Stamp
at no cost. Hunters may
purchase licenses online

The offense will be
tested again this week
as we will be matched
up with a Peach Coun
ty defense that is very
athletic and who play
very fast. This will be
our first road test with
a lot of crowd noise.
The Peach fans are very
loud and will show up
in large numbers for
this clash of top-ranked
teams.
The defense once again
did not give a point in
blanking yet another
opponent. That is two
straight shutouts to start
the season and one thing
that has not changed is
the leader in the middle,
Junior Baron Hopson.
Baron has started where
he left off as he once
again had double digit
tackles and is clearly the
on the field captain this
year. He is surrounded
by a bunch of young
players who are playing
very hard and will con
tinue to get better with
more game experience.
The defense up front is
Josh Robinson (senior),
Layton Webb (senior),
Owen Greene (sopho
more), Malik Brackins
(junior), Jeffery Bryant
(junior), Damarion Rob
erts (sophomore). The
linebackers are led of
course by Baron Hop-
son, Anthony McGrady
(junior), Juwan Bailey
(sophomore), Wiley
Geer (sophomore), Cade
Maxwell (junior), and
Seth McCullers (senior).
The defensive backs
are led by Junior Caleb
McDowell. The speedy
safety also has already
made an impact return
ing kicks and playing
sparingly on offense.
He is joined by Carl
Taylor (junior), Andrew
Willis (junior), Jaron
Willis (sophomore),
Jason Hawkins (se
nior), Jamarion Thomas
(junior), and Quavian
Carter (sophomore).
Coach Butler has these
young men flying to the
ball and they are eager
to fill the tradition of the
dominant defense that
we had last year. There
is still a lot of work for
the defensive staff, but
this group is putting in
the effort to get better
everyday.
Our Trojans will be
facing the top-ranked
team in AAA in the
Peach Trojans at their
house. Peach has a
strong football tradition
and lost in the champi
onship game last year.
We actually hired our
head man Dean Fabrizio
from Peach County
where he was their
defensive coordinator, so
this will be a homecom
ing of sort for Coach
Fabrizio.
We will need to travel
well to help our boys
continue the winning
streak. SO let’s take this
show on the road and
fill up the visitors side.
It is a short ride with a
8PM kickoff time. SO as
always see you there and
GO TROJANS!
