But the biggest and
most sought after catch
in the Oceans of Possi
bilities are the books!
Connecting children to
books makes them life
long readers and lovers
of the library. Stud
ies show that the vast
majority of adult library
users were introduced
to the library when they
were children, quite of
ten through storytimes
or the summer reading
program.
To start the summer
reading voyage on the
Oceans of Possibilities,
families can register
on Beanstack, a digital
platform that encourag
es and helps kids keep
track of their reading. It
also allows them to earn
badges by engaging in a
wide variety of outdoor
and indoor activities
that complement activ
ities being offered at
the library. As an added
incentive for reach
ing their reading goals
throughout the summer,
children are rewarded
with prizes from the
library.
Every summer, for
a few short months,
libraries have the op
portunity to shape the
trajectory of a child’s
life through reading and
imaginative play that
will bring them back
year after year for a
lifetime. But the sum
mer reading program
isn’t just for children;
it’s actually for every
one, regardless of their
age. When grownups
participate, they get the
added bonus of becom
ing a reading role model
for their child and show
their children that read
ing is both important
and fun!
The Lee County
Library summer read
ing program begins
Monday, June 6th, and
Beanstack registration
opens June 1st. For

Oceans of Possibilities
is the theme libraries
throughout the state of
Georgia have adopted
for their 2022 summer
reading programs. Back
in person after a two-
year gap, libraries are
enthusiastically pre
paring for the return of
young patrons to the
library. And Lee Coun
ty librarians have been
particularly busy, diving
deep into the Oceans of
Possibilities and pulling
out a catch of summer
reading, storytelling and
fun activities.
All this they do with
the main goal of con
necting children and
their families to incredi
ble literature and dy
namic experiences that
promote reading, wonder
and exploration.
To reach that goal,
each week throughout
the months of June and
July, branches in the
Lee County system will
host movie matinees,
storytimes and hands-on
arts and crafts activities
for all ages and develop
mental levels.
In addition, special
guests are scheduled
