Sponsorship in honor/memory of Emma Phillips
Emma Phillips passed away two years ago and was just shy of
turning 13. On May 17 she would have turned 15. Cheerleading was
her passion. In honor/memory of her for her 15th birthday, $1000 was
raised by people who loved her. The money went to help sponsor
a cheerleader for the 2022-2023 Season. Blakely, Emma’s mother,
presented the sponsorship to Ragan Prince at the Lee County
Cheerleading ring ceremony.
2022 Lake Worth Drawdown
has been scheduled
Special to the Ledger
The Southern Compa
ny is planning a draw
down of Lake Worth.
The start date is Sep
tember 27, 2022. All the
way down is expected
on October 3, 2022. The
lake will start back up
on November 1, 2022.
The end date will de
pend on Crisp County.
The Drawdown Eleva
tion will be 177.8” with
+/- 0.5’ fluctuation .
The Draw-down rate is
0.5’/day.
Notes associated with
the notification.
It is Georgia Power’s
understanding that Lee
County needs a 2022
Lake Worth drawdown
to complete projects
planned for three public
use parks; a new kayak
landing at Pirate’s
Cove Nature Park on
the Muckalee Creek,
a new kayak landing
on the Kinchafoonee
Creek Jackson’s Ford,
a new public use dock
at Sutton’s Landing
Park. Additionally, the
community would like
clear communication
regarding when to
expect drawdowns in
the future for planning
purposes.
Georgia Power must
balance resource uses
during drawdowns.
Resources evaluated
include:
o Aquatic Species: re
source agency requests
to minimize frequency
and duration of draw
downs for fish habitat
(surface area of lake is
significantly reduced
during drawdown) and
potential presence of
native mussel species.
o Public Recreation:
Resource agency
concern for public
boat ramp access to be
impacted
o Power generation,
including reservoir
refill
o Shoreline structure
maintenance activities
and maintenance of
powerhouse and spill
way structures
Georgia Power can
accommodate the need
for a 2022 drawdown.
In the future, Georgia
Power will move to a
4-year frequency to
benefit from even-year
Lake Blackshear draw
downs for refilling Lake
Worth. The new sched
ule will occur in 2022,
2026, 2030, and so on.

Time to make your
duck, dove and goose
hunting plans for the year.
The 2022-2023 migratory
bird season hunting dates
and regulations were
recently approved by the
Board of Natural Re-
Shoreline maintenance
drawdowns will be to
elevation 177.8 +/- 0.5
feet for the purposes of
maintaining shoreline
structures. This is a
3.5-foot drawdown with
+/-0.5 feet fluctuations.
This elevation preserves
Georgia Power’s ability
to maintain powerhouse
generation to meet
its run of river FERC
license operational
requirement without
damaging turbines.
Additionally, license
requirements to meet a
continuous release 10
cubic foot per second to
Muckafoonee Creek can
be met at this elevation.
During the drawdown,
fluctuations may occur
daily due to generation,
rainfall, or other factors.
sources, according to the
Georgia Department of
Natural Resources’ Wild
life Resources Division
(WRD).
“One notable change
to the migratory bird
regulations this year is a
change to the waterfowl
hunting season. The
second split for duck
season will begin the first
Saturday after December
5, and end on the last
Sunday in January,” said
Tina Johannsen, Assis
tant Chief of the WRD
Game Management Sec
tion. “This change avoids
starting the season on a
day other than Saturday,
thereby maximizing
hunters’ weekend oppor
tunities each year.”
Some of the dates and
details for the upcoming
migratory bird season are
the September Canada
goose season (Sept. 3-25)
and the September teal
season (Sept. 10-25).
Canada goose hunting
has three additional sea
sons: Oct. 8-23, Nov. 19-
27, and Dec. 10 - Jan. 29.
Hunting season for ducks
is Nov. 19-27 and Dec.
10-Jan. 29. A complete
summary of migratory
bird hunting season dates
and bag limits is online
at https://georgiawildlife.
com/migratory-bird-info.
Youth, Veteran, and
Active-Duty Military
Waterfowl Days are
Nov. 12-13, 2022. On
these two days, veterans,
active-duty military, and
youth (age 16 or younger)
may hunt specific migra
tory birds, such as ducks,
Canada geese and mer
gansers. Youth must be
accompanied by an adult
of at least 18 years of
age (only the youth may
hunt, unless the adult is
a veteran or active-duty
military).
State license fees help
support wildlife conser
vation in Georgia. The
state receives federal
funds from the Wildlife
and Sport Fish Resto
ration program, based
on a number of factors,
including the number of
paid sporting licenses.
In Georgia, these funds
are approximately $14
million a year and have
helped restore habitat
and improve wildlife
populations, among other
conservation efforts.
Hunters may purchase
licenses online at www.
GoOutdoorsGeorgia.
com, by phone at 1-800-
366-2661 or at more than
800 license agent loca
tions.
