Grant for a Brighter Christmas
Albany Elks Lodge
713 received $6,000
from the Beacon Grant
this year to help under
privileged/foster fam
ilies in the Dougherty,
Lee, Terrell and Worth
County areas. The grant
is funded through the
Elks National Foun
dation and is given to
local lodges to fund
community projects.
The first part of the
grant ($3,000) was used
to hold the 2nd Annual
Drive-Through Christ
mas party on Sunday,
December 18th for 45
foster children in the
area. We were able to
provide them with three
to four gifts/toys pur
chased specifically for
each child and a snack
lunch in an insulated
Elks lunch bag. Through
our partnership with
the Albany Food Lion
we were able to provide
each family with a large
ham to help make their
Christmas just a little bit
brighter. The grant also
provided the Lodge with
funds so that we could
make a small donation
to Toys for Tots, to Girl
Talk / Deerfield- Wind
sor, and to the toy drive
in Leesburg, GA helping
us to reach approxi
mately 75 children in
all. Special thanks to the
Lodge members and the
Auxiliary members for
giving of their time to
help bring this event to
these children. Thanks
also to Girl Talk/
Deerfield-Windsor for
helping put the lunches
together. Mr. & Mrs.
Claus were there for
photos with the chil
dren.
