paid tribute to local
veterans both retired and
active duty with a spe
cial in-person and live-
stream musical assembly
program on November
10, 2023.
Veterans from all
branches of the mili
tary and their families
attended the program led
by Band Director, Mr.
Will Smith, and Chorus
Director, Ms. Keelin
Walsh.
FFA Secretary Jose-
lyne Andrew, an eighth-
grade student from
Team Synergy, opened
up the program with a
welcoming message and
the Pledge of Allegiance.

veterans with a poetry
reading. Chorus students
Joselyne Andrew, Mary
Evelyn King, and Chloe
Weaver paid tribute to
our veterans with a spe
cial song titled “America
the Beautiful.”
The band and chorus
performances were
amazing and enjoyed by
all.
Our special guest
speaker was Lieutenant
Colonel Richard T.
Wilkerson who is a 28-
year veteran of the Unit
ed States Marine Corps.
Lt.Col. Wilkerson is a
graduate of the Naval
Postgraduate School
where he received a
Master’s Degree in Na
tional Security Affairs.
He is currently assigned
as a Master’s student at
the Air War College in

Everyone listened
intently as Lt.Col. Wilk
erson gave an inspiring
and encouraging mes
sage to the students,
the veterans, and their
families. He spoke of
courage, dedication,
and selflessness, three
important character
traits that describe our
military personnel. He
spoke of the losses of
In conjunction with
the presidential prefer
ence primary on March
12, 2024, Lee County
voters will vote on the
extension of SPLOST
(Special Purpose Local
Option Sales Tax).
SPLOST is regarded
as the fairest tax since
everyone pays the one
cent tax on purchases
and not just property
owners.
Lee County voters
will cast their ballots
to determine on the
extension of the special
one percent sales and
use tax for a period not
to exceed six (6) years
and for the raising of
an estimated amount of
human life from being
at war and the sacrifices
soldiers make to keep
our country safe. He also
spoke of our military
and the importance of
those who serve to se
cure our freedoms here
in the United States of
America. He encouraged
students to always look
for ways to solve con
flicts peacefully and to
think about serving their
$30,673,656.
The money raised from
SPLOST will be used
by the county for public
safety capital projects,
courthouse renovations
and additions, water and
sewer projects, roads,
streets, bridges, library
projects, emergency 911
improvements projects,
public facilities projects,
recreation projects, cap
ital equipment for use in
voting in official elec
tions or referendums,
storm-water infrastruc
ture, and public works
renovations and equip
ment.
Leesburg will use its
share of the proposed
SPLOST if approved
country or community
in some way. He en
couraged students to be
kind to one another, to
be dedicated, and to help
others. His message was
uplifting and enjoyed by
all.

will be opened from
7:00 a.m. until 7:00 p.m.
on March 12th.
The last day to register
to vote or make address
changes prior to this
election is February 12,
2024 by 5:00 p.m.
As in the past elec
tions, early and absentee
voting eill be available.
To obtain an absentee
ballot by mail, a written
request should be sent to
the Lee County Board
of Elections, at Post Of
fice Box 326, Leesburg,
Georgia 31763.
Early voting will be
held at the Elections and
Registration Office in
Leesburg.
