County Receives Good Financial Report
Justin Elliott, of Maul
din & Jenkins, presented
the Fiscal Year 2022-
2023 audit report ending
June 30, 2023 to the
county commissioners
during their meeting
December 12th.
The audit reflected the
overall financial strength
of the County’s General
Fund as of each fiscal
year ended June 30th
for a six (6) year period.
The wider the gap be
tween expenditures and
the fund balance, the
less leverage the county
has each year as it enters
a new fiscal year.
As of June 30, 2023,
the county reflected
a fund balance that
is available to cover
approximately 260 days
(8+ months). This means
that cash flows are avail
able at the beginning of
the new fiscal year, and
the county will not have
to delay certain costs
until later in the fiscal
year when taxes are
collected.
The relationship of
year-end fund balance as
compared to each year’s
expenditures should be
further considered. The
following is the rela
tive percentage of fund
balance as compared to
annual expenditures for
each of the past six (6)
fiscal years: 2018 = 35%,
2019 = 40%, 2020 =
47%, 2021 = 64%, 2022
= 71% and 2023 = 75%.
