Licutaut Carr was born .lan. 27,
1835 on his fathers farm near
Maysvilie, Jackson county Geor
gia, joined the confederate army
as a private, on the organization
of his company was elected first
Lieutenant, was mustered into the
service in 43id Ga, Itegt.,
was captured at the battle of Bakers
Creek, May 16th 1883. Was taken
to Johnson Island where he remain
ed a prisoner till the dose of the
war except for a few months he
with “the six hundred” were
brought to Charleston, S. C., and
placed under the lire of our batter
ies to prevent our firing on Forts
Sumpter and Moultrie.
While in prison he was one of
the immortal six hundred who
planned to escape, but the plot
was discovered and as a punish
ment was put on a ration two army
crackers and a half pint of rotten
corn meal w ithout salt, a day, for
forty days. Lieutenant Carr says
that was the most intensesufl&uing
he ever endured. At the close of
the war he was payrolled and got
home in Sept. 1863. Farmed a
few years; married Miss Hattie
Nash Jan. 28 1868 Raised ten
children to l>e grown, all mauied
but two. All living. Joined the
Presbyterian church in 1871, when
the Presbyterian church was organ
ized at Maysville he was made
ruiling elder. Was superintendent
of the Presbyterian Sunday School
the last twenty years of hij life.
Thus, one by one our dear com
rades are receiving the Summons to
“cease tiring” that life’s battles
have been fought, the last roll call
on earth has been answered. It is
with sad hearts that we part with
such uoble spirits.
Comrade Carr was buried w ith
the beautiful and impressive ritual
of John H. Morgan Camp, * •C.
V. No. 1330 of which he was a
laithful and devoted member.

death of Comrade Carr that our
camp has lost a devoted membci
and the community one of its most
loyal citizens.
