AN ACCIDENT
On last Wednesday afternoon
Frank J. Lewis, Candidate for Tax
Collector and G. F. Swearingen
were traveling around on a lection*
eering tour in the northwestern
part of the county and a little after
dark they found themselves driv
ing through the place of Mr. Eli
Woodruff. They went to drive
through a gate and ran against the
post, knocking it down, throwing
Mr. Lewis out of the buggy. The
lines were caught by Mr. Swear
ingen, who possibly prevented 4
runaway. Mr. Lewis escaped un
hurt, but knocked down some of
Mr. Woodruff’s fine cotton when
he fell out of the buggy. One of
the buggy wheel’s was mashed uo
considerably and the cross piece
and shaft iron sprained. They
spent the nigh* with Mr. Woodruff
and the broken parts of the buggy
were mended sufficiently the next
morning for them to continue their
journey.
The whole cause ot the accident
it is said, was due to the fact that
Mr. Lewis, was in deep study as to
how and what to say to Mr. Wood
ruff in reference to his candidacy,
which is now foremost in his mind.
He will probably do more looking
than studying when driving through'
a gate in the future.

Marie, the ten years old daughter
of Mr, and Mrs. R. E. Kelly,
passed away at their home on Church
street, near the depot Wednesday
afternoon about 6 o’clock, after suf
fering several days from infiamatory
rheumatism. It was believed sev
eral hours before her death that the
end was near, yet it was a great
shock to the fond mother and iath-
who idolized their precious little
daughter.
The body was placed away in
the city cemetery Thursday after
noon to await the coming of the
resurrection morniug.
The News extends heartfelt sym

Editor News: As the time for the
primary approaches, it becomes more
and more apparent that it is Terrell by
a landslide. All along the line the
Terrell forces are closing in and the
Guerry ranks are becoming thinner and
more demoralized.
I had about corioluded that Mr.
Guerry would not make any more
blunders during the campaign for the
reason that there were no more that he
could commit but he has a fertile, as
well as a lurid', imagination and now He
has attacked the Prison Commission
and charged the members thereof with
enough, if true, to turn them out of
office and disgrace them forever. In
his desperation and unseemingly greed
for office he could not even spare hi*
friend, General Clement A. Evans.
General Evans Is naturally indignant
nnd so are his friends Mr. Dumont
Guerry' is powerless to harm or to
smirch the character of Gen. Evans.
Such uncalled for attacks inevitably
recoil upon the perpetrator.
A more inconsistent man than Mr.
Guerry would be hard to find. For
years tho adviser and special champion
of railroads, he tears his hair and shows
strong symptoms of rabbles when a
railroad is mentioned how. When a
youth (?) of thirty-five we find him
fighting prohibition tooth nnd toe,
twenty years later when a candidate
for offico he is the annointed leader of
the prohibition cause. When a "green”
senator he voted with ' the railroads to
allow them to discriminate against the
small towns and farmers, by charging
as much for a short as a long haul; he
voted to raise the legal rate of Interest
tq 12 per cont, but now when a candi
date for governor he tells the dear
people how close to his heart their
interests are.
Ah! Mr. Guerry you are not deceiving
the people of Georgia—not all of them
They know your record and they know
that it is not consistent with - your
present attitude. Knowing you to be
inconsistent they believe you to be in
sincere. Either that or you are not
well balanced. In either event not a
fit person to preside over the destinies
of this great state.

I know it has cured consumption in the

Neither will the other perulo excuse
that no prohibition in Bibb county is

democrat and a republican was running
for the legislature, would you vote for
him? Wouldn’t you get out a demo
crat to vote for or failing in that not
vote at all? If you were a democrat
you certainly would. That is the way
tho people view it, Mr. Guerry.
In one thing Mr. Guerry has been
eminently successful, he has attracted
to his standard, ail of the calamity
howlers, the cranks and extremists, all
of the ancient and more recent foes of
democracy and all of the disgruntled,
sore head politicians. I do not pretend
to say that all the people who are sup
porting him belong to these. There is
among his followers a email minority
of honest, patriotic, though misguided
citizens. But the men who are leading
his campaign, represent a fnotley crew
of malcontents. The men who have
always stood for law and order, for good
government and democracy in Georgia
are conspicousiy absent* from the
Guerry camp. Sam Jones, Broughton,
