VIENNA, QA., SEPT. 16. 1903.
There' ia more interest taken in
farming and planting diversified
crops in Dooly county now than at
any time in the past, and we are
glad to see it. There has got to
be something to keep up all these
little towns, and nothing will
come nearer doing it than a good
farming section. Hnrrah for the
farmers of Dooly county.
It is now Editor C. J. Shipp, of
the Cordele Sentinel. The new
deal was announced in Saturday
morning’s issue of the Cordele
Daily News. Col Shipp has as
sumed control and is now a full-
fledged editor as well as a lawyer.
He is a good writer and The News
welcomes him into the ranks of
Dooly journalism. J. W. Bivins,
the retiring editor, has made a
good paper out of the Sentinel and
he will be missed from the news
paper field.

last Wednesday the child devel

The new school book law of uni
form text hooks recently passed
by the legislature does not apply
to the towns or cities uudor tho
local system of taxation where
they are run at least eight months
in the year. It does not apply to
those or will not become effective
in counties that have made con
tracts with certain book concerns
previous to August 18, 1808, until
their contracts expire. Dooly
county’s contract does not expire
until 1900, therefore no ono need
be worriod about getting i
books. The following is what the
state school commissioner says
fftout it: "In response to your
inquiry I will state that it is my
opinion that the recent law pro
viding for a uniform sories of text
books in the common schools does
not effect contracts made previous
to August 18th, 1908.”
