PREVENT HOG CHOLERA
The B. A. Thomas Hog Powder
has a record of 96 per cent cures of
Hog Cholera. If you feed your hogs
aa directed, you need never fear hog
cholera nor any other hog disease.
And the directions are very simple,
just shout what you are doing, plus
a few cents worth of B. A. Thomas
Hog Powder in the feed twice a week.
Usually though, Cholera gets in
before we know it. Then it requires
close attention to each hog—each
hog -must be dosed—and if you will
doso them as directed, you will save
better than 90 per cent. If you don’t
the B. A. Thomas medicine costs you
nothing. We—not some d^tant
manufacturer—pay your money back

the annual report of the Bureau of
Chemistry, United States Department
of Agriculture, which reviews the op
eration of the food and drugs act in
the safeguarding of the health of the
American people.
The law requires the labels of pat
ent medicines to declare the presence
of any habit-forming drug, such as
opium, cocaine, or alcohol, thus pre
venting the innocent development of
the drug habit This provision of the
law is particularly valuable in warn
ing mothers against the use of so-cnll-
ed infant soothing sirups containing
opium.
When the act went into effect drug
addiction was so prevalent that frauds
in the treatment of the victims were
frequent and in most instances the
remedy advertised sfl forcefully by
the labels contained the very drug
from which escape was desired.
In 1907 the Bureau of Chemistry
found that 30 soft drinks contained
small amounts of cocaine. -Pructical-
ly-all of these were suppressed. The
food and drug act is regarded as hav
ing been an important factor in bring
ing about passage of the Harrisan an
tinarcotic law, which more effectively
eontroli habit-forming narcotics.
Much has besn done the report says
to control the indiscriminate nse of
so-called headache Remedies contain
ing dangerons, depressing drugs, and
of dangerous cosmetics making claim
to ltesling value, and in raising the
quality of the supply of crude drugs
through the examination of imports.
