APPEAL NUMBER 1
The foundation of our liberty is
based upon a democratic government.
The success of the government is de
pendent upon the revenues and the
loyalty of its subjects.
Post Offices and other Government
buildings, the railway mail, and rural
free ‘deliveries are all the outcome of
a wise distribution of the Govern
ment’s patronage. Communities are
built in the same manner, and the
success or failure depends upon the
loyalty of its populace. Good roads
through rural districts, add millions
to property values. Paved streets, ce
ment sidewalks, electric lights, water,
gas, sewer3 and all civic improve
ments cost money, and are the
crowning glory and pride of all
wealthy cultured communities. Mer
chants must pay taxes, insurance, li
censes and other revenues fixed by
law. The distribution of these reve
nues go to improve the communities
in which they are paid. Every dol
lar spent at home means so much ad
ded to the welfare and upbuilding of
the community in which you live.
The building of churches, school
houses and other patriotic and char
itable institutions arc financed by the
charitable liberal citizens of local
localities and again crown the suc
cess of a community.
Every man and woman has a cer
tain interest in their home town, and
point with pride to this or that
achievement. If you were in trouble
financially, would you go to Chicago
lor assistapee? If you wanted to
build a church or hospital in your
neighborhood, would you go to New
York to solicit aid? Most assuredly
r.ot. Then why, we ask in all sincer
ity do you send your money away
from home? You will probably say
that you can save a few cents. This
we doubt, but granting that you did,
is it wise to send your money where
you will never sec it again? Where
every year hundreds of millions of
dollars go to build up a community
and to enrich a few people, and where
there is absolutely no show to ever
reap any benefit from it
The merchants of this city pay their
taxes, insurance, licenses and other
expenses required by law . They de
serve the patronage of the people of
this city and community.
