TOLERATION
My brother, why ehould we fall out
On faith, or fact, or fiction?
Why not forgive you all your debt*.
And me all my convictions.
4
Hi matter what our dreams may be,
At last when we awaken, .
It may be plain to you and me
We both were much mistaken.
There’s something more important
still,
Than even truth or error;
More fit the human heart to fill
Than even hope or terror.
I wonder that.we do not bear
' In constant recollection,
The thought that nothing can com
pare
j. With fervent, fond affection.
The world is only you and I,
(The firm of Self and Brother)
Then, while we live and when we
die,
0, let us love each other!
Why should we cavil at the creeds,
Although they fail to please us?
Affection was the course of deeds
In Buddha and in Jesus.
Belief may wander all about,
But loving and forgiving
Will work the solemn problem out
Of dying and of living,
