AGRICULTURAL ADVISOR
ASKS FOR GQ-OPERATION
.FARMERS MAY RENDER VALU
ABLE ASSISTANCE BY COM
PLYING TO REQUEST.
On the nomination of the Secretary
of Agriculture, the District Board
No. 2 for the Southern District of
Georgia has unpointed K. A. Strat
ford, of Barnesville, as Agricultural
Advisor of that Board.
Mr. Stratford is at present District
Supervisor of County Demonstration
Agents, and member of the Faculty
of the Sixth District A. & M. School
at Barnesville.
Although tho position of Agricul
tural Advisor to the District Board
• requires much time and the nature of
his duties arc very exacting, Mr.
Stratford is giving his services to the
government and to the farmers of
Georgia without pay. In discussing
his new duties he issues the follow
ing statement: "It is my duty to as
sist the District Board in placing in
deferred classification those farmers,
farm laborers, and farm foremen,
who are rendering the Government
. more service toward winning the war
in their present capacity as produc
ers, than they could in the army. I
have established a letter box for all
those farmers who live in Counties
which come under the jurisdiction of
District Board number 2, and I want
them to write me what they know
about the farm labor situation. Es
pecially do I want them to answer the
following questions;
1. Do you know of any land ly
ing idle because of the shortage of
farm labor?
2. Do you know of land which al
though cultivated, has failed to make
a normal crop because of shortage of
farm labor?
3. How does the supply of farm
labor in your community compare
with last year?
4. Give name of your community.
5. Sign your name.
Please answer these questions at
onco and mall to R. A. Stratford,
Barnesville, Ga.. care A. & M. School.
Mr. Stratford further advises the
farmers who employ labor that they
may claim deferred classification for
their employees, whether the regis
trant be a son or a hived man, in case
the registrant failed to claim defer
red classification, or in cate the reg
istered man has waived his right to
deferred class. This applies to the
new draft.
