Strum and lady, of Val dosta, were in the city yesterday. The bream fishing at Heard’s is reported by the local fishermen as fine. Mrs. M. R. Mallette, of Boston, passed through the city yesterday en routo to Eufaula, Ala. There will be a large congregation at the Young Yemale College chapel to-day. Clever Tom Wright, depot agent at Monticello, was in the city yesterday. The outlines of the first story of the first story of the Gulf House begins to take shape. Mrs. Mary E. Sledge and daughter, Miss Mamie, left yesterday for an extended visit to Savannah. Keep the city clean. Write this in golden letters on the future govern ment of Thomasville. Drain the few low places that are left around town, and the work will bring in a handsome dividend. Mr. J. J. Twitty, of Pelham, a member of the Melon Growers Asso ciation, was in the city yesterday. Z. E. Norton, Esq., one of the best citizens of the Cairo district, was iu Thomasville yesterday. Capt. E. M. Smith was indisposed yesterday and Mr. John Montgomery was at work iu the Bank of Thomas ville yesterday. The purchase of Paradise Park by the city is one pf the important ques tions that must be acted on during the present year. The sprinkling of the streets at night have the eflect oi lowering the temperature considerably. Roy. J. B. Forester, of Boston, agent of the American Sunday School Union, will preach at tho Methodist church at 8 p. m. this cvcnimr. Parties having friends visiting them A Big Little Commencement. While the examinations of the two colleges have been going on, and at tracting very general attention, the primary schools have been examining the little fellows and turning them loose for their vacation. The kinder garten school of Miss Mary Barnes had its annual excises Friday. And they were not only interesting, but highly enjoyable. A number of the patrons and friends of this model school were present. The little ones acquitted themselves with much credit, showing clearly the very care ful trniuing and teaching which they have had at the hands of their much loved teacher. Miss Barnes not only has the respect of her little brood, but the loyc of every one of them. The following was the order of ex ercises : Song—School Pleasures—School. The fruit season cometh on. In the windows of all the stores that deal in such things, large piles of glass jars invite the busy housewife to make preparations for the winter season. Mrs. AV. J. Daniel, of Marianna, Fla., is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. James S. Smith, near town. Her sister, Miss Allic, who has been visiting Marianna, returned with her, Rev. Robert H. Harris arrived ou Friday evening, and is the guest of Mrs. O. C. Hall, on AA T arren street. He will spend a day or two with friends here before returning to Co lumbus. Thomasville is headquarters for drummers on Sunday. Probably the most reasonable explanation of the fonduess shown by the knights of the grip for Thomasville on Sunday, is the fact that our churches are supplied with good preachers. Nothing has been heardF from the delegation that went down to St. Si mons Island, to represent the Thomas ville Gun Club. It may be that these gentlemen lmvo been carried away by the ocean breezes.
