THE CRY OF THE DREAMER. I am tired of planning and loiling In the busy hives of men; Heart weary of building nnd spoiling And spoiling and building again. And I long for the dear old river, Where I dreamed my youth awaj; v For a dreamer lives forever, And a toiler dies in a day. I am sick of the showy seeming Of ft life that is half a lie; Of the faces lined with scheming, In the throng that hurries by. From the sleepless thoughts endeavor. I would go where the children play; For a dreamer liv^s forever, And a toiler dies in a day. I feel no pride, but pity, For the burdens the rich endure; Taerc is nothing sweet in the city But the patient lives of the poor Oh, tie little hands so skilful, And the child minds choked with weeds, The daughter’s heart grows wilful, And the father's heart that bleeds. No, no! from the street’s rude bustle. From trophies of mart and stage. I would fly to th* wood’s low rustle. And the meadow’s kindly page. Let me dream as of old by the river, And be loved for the dream alwny; For a dreamer lives forever, And a toiler dies in a day —Jno.Boyle O'Reilly in Nebraska St. Journal Cleveland’s Contribution. New York Times. The Santa Barbara Herald publish cs the following letter from Grover Cleveland, sent in response to a request for a contribution in aid of the new Methodist Episcopal church: TheVictokia,(N. Y.,)April 8,1889. Miss Annie C. Pyle:—Letters like yours, asking for help for churches and other worthy causes, are sent to me so incessantly that I find it impossible to respond to them all. I am pleased, ltowever, with your plan to do some thing or give something for the money you ask, instead of being contented with merely asking for it. 1 enclose you five dollars, and in re turn I expect you tp send me a nice card with some pretty moss pressed upon it. Don’t send me anything oth er than you can well afford—leaving you a very large profit from the trans action. I expect to pay well for what I get, . and shall no doubt be perfectly satis fied with what you see fit to send. Yours truly, Grover Cleveland.
