|LATEST TELEGRAMS. A Bad Blow in Florida—Woolfolk Makes a Statement—More Bodice Found at Johnatown-A Professor Resigns a Pro fessorship at Athens. Jacksonville Fla., June 17.—A heavy rain storm lias prevailed here for the past thirty-six hours, accom panied, a portion of the time, by a gale of wind. Reports from the interior of the state indicate that the storm Was done more or less damage in several localities. A Sanford special to the Times-Union says: “A terrific south west gale and heavy rain has prevailed here since midnight. At I.ake May, six miles west of here, a tornado cut a track 100 feet wide, bearing down for est trees before it. Macon, Ga., June 17.—A special to the Telegraph from Perry, Ga., snys: “The first day of the third week of the trial of Tom Woolfolk, charged with the murder of his fath er’s family, consisting of nine people, was made notable by a statement of the accused. Woolfolk, when put ou the stand, showed no nervousness, and told his story in a cool, straight forward manner. He said that about 2 o’clock on the morning of the mur der he and his brother Richard wciW roused by groans and screams, and that both leaped from bed and rushed into their father’s room. Richard was in front, and as he entered the door of his father’s room, Tom says, Richard was struck dowu. Tom claims that this so frightened him that he ran to a window, leaped out and went to a negro house and aroused the inmates. The remainder of his statement consisted of denunci ations of the witnesses who swore against him. Tom charges that every witness who has given damaging evi dence against him has sworn to lies. The prisoner’s statements seemed to make but little impression on the jury and did not strengthen his case.” Athens, June 17.—Prof. William Rutherford.of the chair ot pure math ematics, tendered his resignation to day to the board of trustees. He is the oldest member of the faculty, hav ing filled his position for forty years. His resignation was entirely voluntary, as there was nodisposition to supplant him. He has been a power in the university. THE NEW PRIZE STORY is eagerly sought for, iviul with pleasure or dis appointment, is then tossed aside and forgot ten.
