New Enterprises In Dixie.
Baltimore, June j 2—Among other
important enterprises reported in this
issue of the Manufacturer’s Record,
there are: Enlargement to Locomotive
[’■ Works at Richmond, Va , at a cost of
$750,000, a $600,000 New England
company to build a town in Georgia,
a $1,000,000 machine company in
Louisville, a $100,000 mining com
pany, a $100,000 lumber company in
Kentucky,a $100,000 lumber company
in North Carolina, a $100,000 fiber
manufacturing company in Texas, and
a sale of 8,000 acres of coal lands in
West Virginia for $70,000 cash for
early development. •
Another Deluge in Pennsylvania.
A"dispatch from Philadelphia yes
terday, speaking of the vote on prohi
bition in that state, says: 4
“Returns from forty lour out of the
sixty seven counties in this state show
a majority against the prohibition
amendment of 169,454. Full returns
from the whole state will probably
raise the figures to nearly 200,000.”
We should say that Pennsylvania
was decidedly wet. Senator Colquitt’s
predictions didn’t pan out.
The “Girl I Left Behind Me” is
much sung of, but the “girl who left
me behind” is known neither in song
or story.—Ex.
