Red Cloud's Fourth of July Speech. Among the features of the “Fourth” celebration at Chadron, was the speech of the celebrated Indian chief, lied Cloud. He was introduced to the audience by L. J. F. Iaeger. “Ladies and gentlemen: 1 will say something to you this evening, and 1 want you all to listen to me, please. I was asked to come and see you and celebrate the great fourth of July, and to show you how the Indians dance, but i have something to tell you besides that. I have told yon many times before that, all you people were my friends, and I hope that all our children will love each other like brothers and children in the future, as if we were all born of one woman. “The Great Father sent commis sioners here fo try and bulldoze me like a child, and try to take my land away from me. They told me that if I did not give the land up it would lie just like a big fish in a pond with lit tle fisli, the big ones would cat the lit tle ones all up. They said that the white people would take all the good lands from me, and that I would have nothing left but had lands, when I would starve to death. They said that if I had a big stone wall around me the white people would get over it, and that if I did not sign the pa per there would he no more Indians —they would lie wiped out, lnit I am no child. “They came to me like a child, and so I did not sign the paper. The Great Father has bothered me so much about my land that I am get ting tired of it. I have told him that I will never give him any more of niv land, and I want you all to under stand me. The Great Father has made many treaties with me and un people, but never kept his word when the time came to pay the money to make his word good. I am chief of the whole Sioux nation, and I have promised my people that I would never sign any more of my land away, and I am going to keep my word. In all the treaties with the Great Father I was always cheated, and so were un people. I do not like to make a fuss over this, for I want to be friends to you all. This land where Chadron is now, is mine, and was stolen from me in the treaty of 18G8. I want you all to be my friends. I would say morc, but I do not feel well, (mod- bye.”—Omaha Herald. The Mexican Wasp. The Mexican wasp is built entirely for business. He is over two inches long when lie is of age. anil is about the color of a bay horse. His plunger is a full inch long and as fine as a spider’s web. Unlike the stinger of a common bee, the stinger of the Mex ican wasp is nou-forfeitable. He don’t give up after one lunge, but has it always in readiness for an all-day job if necessary. The mission of the Mexican wasp seems to he merely to hunt up people and run that stinger of his into them. The natives say that he will go ten miles out of his way to get a whack at a person. I he natives seem to get fat on snake bites, centipede bites and scorpion stings, but if they discover one of these wasps in their neighborhood they hunt for cover without delay. --- Tombstone Epitaph. WOMEN AND MICE. Thf* reason why a woman is afraid of a mouse is a profound mystery—indeed, it has never Itron very closely proven that she is. Hut some women arc constantly in such a nervous, irritable condition that the slightest thing anno vs and startles them. The cause of this unfortunate state of airairs is usually some functional derangement: some distress ing or painful irregularity, some derange ment or peculiar weakness incident to her fcx ; or, it mav be due to inllaminution, ul ceration or displacement., of some of the pelvic viscera, or to other organic lesions peculiar to her sex. From whichever cause it may arise, I)r. Pierre’s Favorite Prescrip tion is a positive remain, so certain in its curative results that its manufacturers sell it, through druggists, under a (juarantcc of its giving satisfaction in every case, or money paid for it will bo promptly re funded. As a soothing and strengthening .nervine, “ Fnvbritc Prescription" is unc- niialed and is invaluable in allaying and sub- nuing nervous excitability, irritability, ex haustion, prostration, hysteria, spasms ami other distressing, nervous symptoms com monly attendant upon functional and organic disease of the womb. It induces refreshing sleep nnd relieves mental anxiety and de spondency. Copyright, IPS*, by Wom.n’s Dis. Med. Ass’.v. DR.
