-WBBS'i Alcohol on the Mind. It is one of the cutious errors that alcohol stimulates the imagination, and and gives a clearer, more practical in- imagination not a superior insight into or opncep- ' •*' Uionoi the relation of events, but is a iptd reproduction of previous ‘pnghts, S9?n merging into Contusion, he inebriate never 'Creates -any new ideas or new views. All his fancies are tumultous, blurred and barren. The apparent brilliancy is only a flash of mania, quickly followed by demen tia. Alcohol always lowers the brain capacity, and lowers the power of discriminating the ^ relation- of ideas and events. After'a few 1 'periods of intoxication, the. wind, under; the in fluence of spirits is a blank, blurred page. The poets and authors who are popularly supposed to make great ef forts under the influence of alcohol, only repeat what has been said be fore in a tangled deliripm of expres sion. The physicians who are sup- .. . posed to have greater skill when using \ h Spirits, have paralyzed their higher brain centers, and have lost all sense . of fear or appreciation of the conse- i i quences of their acts, and hence act, more atomatically, simply doing what they hstve done before, without any f »- cleat appreciation or discrimination^bf | rlthfe results. The inebriate is the best 1 ot all imaginative persons, and the one in whom the higher brain forces of judgment, reason and conception are the first to give way. The man vtho uses spirits to give mental force and clearness is doing the very worst thing possible to destroy, this effect, Alco hoi is ever and always paralyzant. It never creates anything; it never gives strength or force that did not exist be lore; it never gives a Clearer concep lion or power ot execntioh/Dht always lowers, destroys and breaks down.— T. D. Crothers, M. D. Florida Trunk Line. ! The Future Life. Victor lingo. I feel in myself the future life. I am like a forest which has been more lhanonce cut down. The extreme length of the fish, includ- ing the caudal fin, was 6 i-a inches' and its weight 5 1-2 ounces. Thefish was captured on June i6 and was nearly ready to spawn. The weight of the ovaries was 1 1-4 ounces. The eggs measured twenty-eight to the inch, making 21,952 to the cubic inch. The displacement of the ovaries in water was a trifle over two cubic indies, and the number was estimated in round numbers to be 44,000, a most enormous number for so small a fish.
