The New York Sun aha the Ameri can Gardener call attention to the disappearance of fences. Belgium and Bavaria get along without fences. The people in those countries need every inch ot land for cultivation. In Georgia and South Carolina the notfence counties are jirispidousty prosperous and 1 well "Tpth their experiment. - The cat number of the fences on It are unnecessary. They sep arate fields hot liable to invasion and con stitute a barrier between the property of neighbors for which there is no occasion. To build them and keep them in repair im poses an expense which, in the aggregate, is enormous, and where they are of wood they cause an unnecessary draught on the forest supply at a time when our timber needs to be carefully preserved. Many of the Icnces, especially the more modern fences, deface the landscape, as foreign travelers have 60 often complained, They are placed where no excuse for building them exists; not merely to ihut off the property of different owners, hut to divide the fields of a single farm, and where protection against cattle is not at all required. They also keep from cultivation a vast amount of land in the aggregate. It, therefore, becomes a .question of practical economy for every ' farmer to consider whether he has fences, and how many of them, which are absolute ly necessary. The time, labor and money con- umed in keeping up fences is an im portant item. Even in the little towns 1 and villages around New York, fences have in many instances been abandon ed on the ground of economy and because they destroy the beauty of the landscape. The disappearance of the fences of the country will leave the people more land, more time, and more money in their pockets.—Ex. We commend the above to the citi zens of this county who are soon, to vote on the fence question. -CARBONATED WITH— NATURAL GAS Imported from the Mineral Springs on the Rhine, Ger many, on draught at Ll k&SSMMTS. v ?; a.:; DRINK Mineral TST ater For the Liver and Kidneys.
