Kessler’s band, from Macon, is in the city. It gave some fine music in different parts of the city last night. Misses Lula and Stella Baker re turned yesterday from a pleasant visit of several weeks to friends in Bruns wick Mrs. A. J. Post and daughter, of Brooklyn, N. Y., are among the latest arrivals for the winter. They arc at the Gulf. Mr. and Mrs. N. Lilienburg and little daughter, of New York, arrived yesterday to spend some time. Mrs. Lilienburg is a daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Stuart. They are at the Stuart House. Most of the familiar faces of the help of the old Gulf, will greet the patrons of the new Gulf. Bill Jones, the old porter, and Amos Lester, tiie former head waiter, have their old places back again. Oh, the sunshine; the softness of it; the brightness of it; the glory of it. The Clerks to be Held Responsiblfi, The cases of the state against the srehauts indicted for selling cigar- ;es to minors, were taken up in urt yesterday morning. After a tient hearing from both sides, Judge msell ruled that the proprietors einselves could not be held respon se for the actions of their clerks, ier giving them positive orders not sell or provide minors with cigar- es. The clerks themselves will vc to bo personally responsible for dating the cigarette law. One or o proprietors who sold cigarettes minors personally, plead guilty. ie Chinaman who provided the ys with cigarettes for the first week two after the law was passed, was ared under the law allowing three ys for every hundred miles from : capitol for a new law to become lerally known. Court Adjouincd. The October adjourned term of Thomas Superior court adjourned last evening. The following criminals were on trial for misdemeanors, and plead guilty, except in the case of George Brown who was tried and convicted of the offense, They were sentenced as follows: Willie Irwin, $30 or 3 months on the chain gang. George Hardy, $100 or 12 mouths. George Brown, $100 or 8 months. Joe Miller, $50 or 0 mouths. « “ S50 or G months. Joe Williams, $50 or 0 months. We have not seen any thing we like better. We are pre pared to commend the work of Mrs. Sawyer in the highest terms.
