I * Mayor Hopkins appeared before the
! board, and offered in the nsftic aud
behalf of the city, that Thomnsville
would take the convicts and relieve
the county from all expenses.
After some discussion, Commission
er Mallette, offered a resolution to
leave the disposition of the matter to
the next Grand Jury.
Hon. Arthur Patten, who was np
pointed at the last terra of the Com
missioners Court to look into the ti
tles of certain lots iu the city of Thom
asville, submitted a report in which
he places the titles to the county.
There arc something like 30 of these
lots, and they arc worth quite a snug
sum. Capt. Hansel], who was enga
ged by the city council to look into
the samt matter, and who represented
the city, concurred in the report made
by Mr. Patten.

, The County Convict Question
wear, a I j t w -u | )e sccn j rnm tl synopsis of.
the proceeding of the County Commis
sioners meeting held yesterday, which
appears in another place, that the dis
position of this question has been left
to the Grand Jury of the next term of
our Superior Court, which conveners
two weeks lienee.
nn”Kpffp - hiiro'flin pvpi> I Thc Timim-Enteri-hise is strongly
no Detti Bargain evei of lho OJ)inion that thc best solution
offered in TllOmaSVille J of this vexed question, and it were
useless to deny that it has brought
I about some friction, is for the city au
thorities to take the convicts from the
county at a rental of say §20 per year.
Thomasville can afford to pay this
price, and believe such an offer would
satify all "parties concerned. It is a
trifle less than Capt. McKee offered,
but it relieves the situation of all dis
agreeable features, dues not bring con
vict iuto competition with free labor,
and it is certainly true that thc eon
Messrs. L. H. Jergcr and Jack
Curtriglit will leave for Jacksonville
to day.
We regret to leatn" that Mr. Sam
Cassels is temporarily laid up with
the grip.
