The Enquirer-Sun, of Friday says: "Mr. Pickett, the local manager of Phelan’s bucket shop, is still in cus tody. Yesterday when an Enquirer-Sun reporter called on him, he found him in consultation with Mr. McDonald of the Americus exchange, the latter hav ing come over here to help Mr. Pick ett with his books. The books have been thoroughly examined, and Mr. Pickett knows exactly how he stands, the amount not varying materially from the account given in yesterday’s Enquirer-Sun. He is ready for his trial and feels assured that just as soon as he has a hearing that the warrants held against him will be quashed. He is prepared for trial to-day, but it is not likely that a hearing will be had until Saturday. He remarked that Mr. Hatcher, representing the Colum- bps creditors, was in Atlanta yester- day, consulting with Mr. Phelan, and feels assured that a satisfactory settle ment will be made. When asked why he had not given bail, he replied that it was useless to furnish bend, for just as soon as one warrant was bonded, another would be sworn out against him, and as he was comfortably sit uated at the court house, and could have consultation with his friends he deemed it best to remain there, feel ing satisfied that at his hearing he would be immediately released.’’ The amount due speculators is only about $3,000. This will no doubt be arranged by Mr. Pickett, when the matter will be dropped. Lee’s Statue on the Way.
