1 '-m Chau I. Depew’s Opinion of the South. At the dinner of the New York alumni of Yale, at Delmonico’s a few nights ago, Mr, Cbauncey M. Depew gave the result of the impressions which he received during his recent visit to the south. He said : ‘ The south is the bonanza of the future. We have developed all the great and sudden opportunities for wealth or most of them in our northwestern states, and on the Pacific slope. But here is a vast country with the best climate in the world, with conditions of health which arc absolutely un paralleled, with vast forests untouch ed ; with enormous veins of coal and iron, which yet have not known any thing beyond theiroriginal conditions; with soil that, under proper cultiva tion, with little capital cau support a tremendous population ; with condi tions in the atmosphere for comforta ble living, winter and summer, which exist nowhere else in the country ; a country that is to be the attraction for the young men who go out from the (arms to seek settlement, and not for immigrants from abroad; it is to become in time, as prosperous as any other section of the country and as prosperous by a purely American development.” The South is, without doubt, the coming section of our country. Its possibilities are illimitable. IV “WHAT MEDICINES ABE MOST CALLED FORt» asked the reporter of an old dnimriat. Dr. Pierce's preparations," Go replied.
