The 01(1, Old Fashion-
As il has been from the foundation
of the world, so it is now—marrying
and giving in marriage. The honest
and hopeful and happy old lashion
lives yet, lias blest many of the yeutig
people of Sparta in the past and will
have other smiling candidates for his
blessedness trooping to the front in
the nigh future. As they come and
as they go, they take the blessing of
the Ishmaelite with them. Standing
as it docs like a retired veteran by the
wayside over which these young sol
diers are passing, it blesses them in
tender and saddened memory of the
day when it, too, marc ied to tnc same
i eart-music—alter the old, old fashion.
God send them bright stars and a
cloudless sky above them, and the
smooth and sunny ways that love
makes for the trusting and trusted
young life-soldiers who journey, hand
and hand together, toward the parting
of the ways. It is the old, old fashion
and may it live forever!—Sparta Ish
maelitc.
He Starts out Right.
New York lias long been noted lor
its prececiotis children, but it has one
youngster now who can make all the
rest, even in that progressive city
take a back seat. His name is Hubert
Fairlic and, though only 2 years old,
lie is already famous. He was horn
in Singapore, India, and his grand
father is Sultan Abbouckcr of the
Malay Peninsula. This wonderful
child has traveled in all parts of the
world, having just completed a jour-
ney of 18,000 miles. He speaks
English, French and Malay fluently,
and in politics is a pronounced tariff
reform democrat.—Savannah Times.

A correct map of the northwest will show
that the Northern I’acitic railroad traverses
the central portion of Minnesota, Noith Da
kota, Montana and Washington tor a dis
tance ot nearly '2,00o miles; it is the only
railroad reaching Jainetown, Bismarck, Miles
City, Aiding*, Livingston, Bozeman, Mis
soula, Cheney, Davenport, Palouse City,
Sprague, A'lt/.ville, Yak inn, Kllenshurg, Ta
coma, Seattle ami in fact nine-tenths of tin-
northwest cities, towns and points of inter
est.
The Northern Pacific is the shortest trans
continental route from iSt. Paul and Chicago
to Helena, Butte. Anaconda. Deer Lodge,
fc’pokauc Falls. Walla Walla, Dayton ami
Portland, and the only one whose through
trains reach any portion of the new state of
Washington. Laud seekers purchasing Pa
cific Coast second class tickets via. St. Paul
and the Northern Pacific have choice from
that point of free Colonist Sleeping Cars or
Pullman’s Tourist Furnished Sleepers at
charges as low as the lowest.
For the benefit of settlers the Northern
Pacific also gives a ten day stop over privi
lege on second class North Pacific Coast
tickets at Spokane Falls and each and every
point west, including over 125 stations in
Washington, thus enabling persons seeking
n home to examine this vast ttrritory with
out incurring an expense of from $5 to $25
in traveling on local tickets from point to
poinf.
Insure for yourself comfort and safety by
having the best accommodations afforded,
thereby avoiding change of cars, re-check
ing of baggage, transfers ami lay overs en
route. Money can be saved by purchasing
tickets via. St. Paul or Minneapolis and the
Northern Pacific.
