A Confederate To Speak at Ander-
sonville.
Decoration day will soon come
around at Audcrsonvillc. A gallant contained
ex-confederate officer will pay tribute
to the men who wore the blue on th
occasion. The Savannah Times, says
Commander David Porter, of the
Grand Army of the Republic of Geor
gia, will attend the services at Ander
Embraced Judaism.
Miss Nettie Watson, a charming
young gentile, has embraced the Jew
ish faith. She lives in Romo and
has recently married a prominent
Israelite in that city. It will lie in
teresting to our readers to study the
articles of faith to which Miss Watson
subscribed. Here they arc :
1 believe in one, absolute eternal
Jehovah, creator of heaven and earth,
and Father of all mankind. There
is no mediator between God and Ilis
children. ‘‘I, even, I, am the Lord,
and beside me there is no Savior.” I
believe that God is King and Redeem
er, the Lord of Hosts, the first and
the last, besides whom there is no
God, no Redeemer, no Savior.
I believe in the immortality—of the
soul, and in man's accountability to
God.
I believe in the trutn and inspira
tion of the Bible, and that all that is
necessary to man’s salvation is therein
better than gold.

It has also been the custom for the
colored soldiers to fire a salute over
the graves of the Federal soldiers.
This year the E. S. Jones Post has
invited the Southern Cadets to fire
the salute. The company has not

matter. The E. S. Jones Post seems

sectionalism.
How is This?
“Boston,‘Mass., May 6.—Secretary
of the Commonwealth Henry B.
Tierce has issued a document which
makes solid readiug for Henry Cabot
Lodge, of the sixth congressional dis
trict, and United States Senator
George Frisbie Hoar. In point of
fact they are likely to find it quite
indigestible. It shows the registered
vote of ihc state in the governors
election last fall, and the actual vote
cast. The number of registered vo
ters was 372,035, and the ballots cast
were only 273,833. In other words
nearly 100,000 legal voters in Mas
sachusetts, whose names were on the
voting lists, remained at home and
let the government gi to the dogs.
Was this vote suppressed? If such
a showing were made in a southern
state, Mr. Lodge or Mr. Hoar would
instantly answer “Yes.” As it was in
Massachusetts nobody dreams of
making such a charge. But the
figures given show hut half the pic
ture. They simpiy make it clear that
twenty seven per cent of the register
ed vote was not east.”

Lee’s Statue.
A writer thus describes the mag
nificent equestrian statue soon to be
erected in memory of Lee, in the city
of Richmond:
An equestrian stall te is ouc of the
most difficult feats in sculpture.
Venice and Copenhagen possess the
two finest equestrian statues in the
world. Critics declare the Lee mon
ument equal if not superior to any
equestrian work at Paris. It is forty
feet high, forty-one feet across, and
weighs eight tons, and is the result
of four years' careful study, lhe
horse alone was a year’s labor. The
statue was cast in eight sections and
was six months in the foundry. The
pedestal is twenty one feet high,
making the total height sixty-one feet.
It is of granite, almost white as mar
ble ; four columns of polished blue
granite are on either side. The base
is designed for the statues of six gen
crals who served with Lee. The
three selected at prescut arc Stone
