You can fairly see the corn and cotton growing now, A number of the friends of Mr. and Mrs. Love Wilder were at the depot yesterday morning to sea them off. Mrs. J. L. Linton, accompanied by Mrs. C. 0. Thomas, of Valdosta, lott Tuesday morning for a visit to Madi son. Ubiquitous, loquacious, clever Tom Burney, representing that live paper, the Atlanta Journal, was in town i terday. McRae Bro’s, drug store, in the Mitchell House block, was closed yes terday on account of the death of a brother, in Florida. There is some talk of making up party from here to go yachting oil'St Marks, Fla., this season. The trip would be an enjoyable one. Mr. Jim Callaway, one of the best newspaper men on the road, was cir culating in town yesterday, whooping up that solid democrats paper, the Macon Telegraph. “Jeems” is a hust ler from away back. Miss Rate Grtfltn left yesterday morning for I.oirsville, Ky. Her many friends will unite with us, in wishing for her a pleasant summer, and a sate return to Thomasville, when the “leaves begin to turn again.” Have you a broken umbrella ? < he umbrella man is in town. This re minds us that if the man who took the editor's umbrella recently will re turn it to this olhce no mention of the matter will be made in these columns. Tobe Slater, one of our best known colored men, and who has been for years the popular delivery porter for the Red Front Grocery, lias bought a neat wagon and a serviceable horse, and will run a city express. Tobe has hosts of friends in the city, and they will not lorgct him when they have work in his line. The Times- Enterprise is always glad to chroni cle the prosperity of our colored peo ple, and hv the way, Thomasville has a splendid class of such citizens. Lots of Fun and Fish. The party of railroad men from the depot, who spent Wednesday on the lake, had a glorious time, and brought back n lot of fine fish as a result of their skill. One of the party killed seven snakes, another fell overboard, and the whole company got lost in the swamp. Barring these little inci dents, which were accepted as fisher man’s luck, every one had a good time. Of Interest to Fathers, Mothers and Children. Now that the long summer morn ings ami afternoons are upon us, why cannot they he utilized in working up a renewed interest in the Public Li brary ? This institution has not been patron ized, and supported as it should have been. It lias been, in a sense, lost sight ofin the pursuit of other things. Every father and mother in the place should feel anil take au interest in the library. Their hoys and girls may find there healthy and nutritious men tal food. They will not find on the shelves of the institution any Jesse James, Dick Turpin, blood curdling literature, hut a class of works, the reading and study of w hich, will bet ter prepare them for the duties of life. These will make them better and more useful men and women. We should remember that the girls and hoys of to-day are the men and women of the future; the hope of the country. IIow important it is then, that their early training and reading should be directed in the proper chan nels. This is eminently a reading ace. If a girl or hoy can’t get hold of a good hook, they will read and de vour a trashy one. And lmw many lives have been blasted by the flashy, yellow hack literature of the day '! A public libraty, it supported and pa tronized, will avert much—it not all —of these dangers which beset the youth of our land. We appeal, in conclusion, for these and many other reasons, to the citi zens of Thomasville to hold up the hands of the few gentlemen who have given their time and attention to keeping up this worthy and commend able institution. Wants to Know About the Rail road Situation. Mi:. Editor Do you,or does any body else hereabouts, know whether the Georgia Southern and Florida Railroad Company intend really to build a road from Tifton here, or h all this parade about right of way and terminal facilities a mere sham and pretense to prevent Thomasville do ing something else. If you or any olio else are inside, and can give reliable information about the matter, the general public, as well those who have contributed to the purchase of the terminal facilities, would like to know what it is. If the project of the Georgia South ern is not a reality, then we should go to woik and get the Augusta ami West Florida road built. That will come fif it comes at all,) through Thomasville. Ci.m. L. B. M. H. Worth Thinking About. Who 11 you want a lawyer do yon ask all the attorneys their price, and then employ the cheapest? Do you not rather look for the one whose skill and knowledge of law will protect your interest? Why not apply the game idea to other matters where confidence is a factor in your dealings; for instance, in the purchase of a hat or lionnct. It cannot lie denied that considering t/uality and price, one hat may he dear at one dollar, another cheap at five. One bonnet dear at two dollars, another cheap at ten. To decide the question of cheapness we must consider: 1st. The standing of the establishment which sells the hat. 2nd. The value as regards correct style and nice finish, which all require in a hat. 3rd. The satisfaction given to others who buy from the Baltic house. Vow, we don't pretend to keep the biggest stock of hats, and the only nice huts, the cheapest hats, and to sell at less than cost, and all that sort of thing, but wo do claim to sell you vim! you mint and to guarantee natirfaction after you get it. Some say “prices are high,” but all admit they get more than was expected when the hat is finished. Wc make it a point to let no shoddy work go out from our store. If a (lower is needed here, a ribbon there, or an ornament in another place, on it goes, and nothing said of extra cost. The hat must look nice, and so it does. IIow happy we would he if we could only get the contractor to sprinkle the street in front of our .store too. We have offered to pay and to pay well—$1, $2, $3, $4, or any thing reasonable—but it seems without avail, and wc have to keep up an unceasing light on the dust, and trust to the clouds, which arc “few and far between.” Miss olcmiic Carroll.
