A Little Story from Real Life
That Carries a Moral.
From aa Exchange.
When you got married to the bright
est and best girl in the country, where
did you look for thatnotice 'hat meant
so much to you, and so little to nearly
everybody else ? To your home pi
per.
When your home was invaded by
the blue eyed girl, or the bouncing
baby boy, to whom did you make it
your business to convey early informa
tion as to the sex, the time and the
weight? To ihe editor of that home

A Bomb Theory Exploded.
Some one reported to the officers
that a dynamite bomb had been
found near the Mitchell House. Of
ficer Brown made an investigation, but
an examination of the supposed bomb
showed that it was simply a piece of
lead pipe, and the so called fuse which
was attached proved to he a piece of
the rag that had been used to stop the
flow of water before the section had
been detached from the main pipe,

Colored Excursion.
One would have fully realized that
the season for the colored excursions
had arrived if he had been at the de
pot yesterday, about noon, when the
excursion train of twelve coaches
pulled in from Waycross, bound for
Bainbridge.
Six or seven hundred people from
here filled to overflowing the two
coaches which were attached lor their
accommodation.
A band and several ball teams were
along, and the excursionists seemed in
lor a day oi fun. Although the train
was not due to arrive until 11:25, the
crowd began to fill the depot by six.so
determined werenhey not to get left.
Several policemer were put on duty
at the depot, and the very best of
order was preserved. ,
Police Offenders.
There were only three eases before
the Mayor yesterday morning.
Zeke Hamilton, who was tried for
disorderly conduct, was discharged, as
it was proven that he was only dis
charging his duties as a saloon pro
prietor, who wished to preserve order
in his establishment.
Mag Fort was convicted of being
disorderly, nnd fined 810 and costs or
twenty days. She could not raise the
necessary amount nnd was sent to jail.
Willie Gray was fined 85 aud costs
for being disorderly,anil an additional
85 for contempt ot court.
A call has been issued for a meeting

just biought home somebody else’s
daughter and set up an establishment
of his own, to whom do you personally
exhibit the wedding presents and load
up with the bride’s cake, and to whom
do you look for that complete descrip
lion of the interesting event, down to
the last pickle fork and individual salt,
which, once more, means, so much to
you and a very few others, and so little
to anybody else ? To this same editor
of that same home paper.
And when trouble comes in the
home and you add to your possessions
that desolate bit of realty, t'’e lot in
the cemetery, and somehow the sun
doesn’t see n to shine just as it used
to, and there’s the flutter of crape at
the door and the odor of the tube rose
in the front parlor, and the chair that
has for years been beside vours at the
table is vacant—when all this happens,
woo makes it his business to wrile in
tender strain of the one whose life has
grown to be a part of yours, and whose
sympathy and good deeds to others
have long been known and recognized,
if never publicly announced?
The editor of the home paper; and
he’s only too willing to do the little
that he can to help you over the hard
spot in the road.
And all these years you’re advertised
in this home paper, and done what
you could to help the editor fight your
battles in municipal and county mat
ters, and encourage him as he has
worked to build up the town and
business to it ?
How is it ? Have you ?
We commend the perusal and study
of the foregoing. Everybody should
take their home paper.
A Good Word for the Mule.
There is one fact in the history of'
George Washington we do not rppre
ciate. He was not only the “first in
war, first in peace, and first in the
hearts of his countrymen,” hut the
first to bring n Spanish jackass to the
states. I think it would he a true
economy for our farmers to raise mules
for farm work. They are hardy, live
long, of great endurance, eat half as
much as a horse, not subject to dis
ease, aud are patient aud reliable if
treated with any degree of kindness.
If farmers will not raise good horses
they can easily get good mules. As
a matter of economy they should try
the experiment.—Lancasler Exam
iner.
It isn’t often that one hears a good
wor.1 for the mule, aud, as it has al
ways been our custom to say good
things, instead of unpleasant ones, we
take pleasure in reproducing the above
for the despised mule.

admitted that an old whisky is by far the
