This makes Augusta, the Chronicle says: “Augusta is already the greatest railroad centre in the south, yet here arc seven new lines either buildin oil which work will lie started within a few months.—the three C’s, the Au gusta and West Florida, the Augusta and Chattanooga, the Carolina, Knox vilic and Western, the Coast Line ex tension. the Augusta, Gibson and San- dersvillt extension, and the Smithso- iiia, Lincolnton and Augusta. The Augusta and West Florida comes via Thomasville. This place is vitally interested in the construc tion of that line, and will give every possible encouragement to it,— ThomasviL’e has already .subscribed fifty thousand dollars to the project, and stands ready to do her full share toward pushing the road through. Tt would give us a shorter and almost air lino to New York and the east, and would put Thomasvillc in close connection with half a dozen great system. With the S. F. it W. It Pays. Truck farming pays. The Mil— ledgcville correspondent of the Consti tution says: ‘ Mr. Ely Harrell, of this county, was ill tho city yesterday with a wag on load of vegetables, brought from his farm near here, that were superior to anything brought from the foreign markets. He was accosted by the Constitution correspondent, and the statement lie gave as to the value of the vegetable yield is amazing when compared with that of cotton. Ilis leading product is cabbage, and from his cabbage patch last year, lie clear ed an avers,gp of <1(111 per acre. Ho has doubled his capacity this year, and given bis attention to other vege tables that he has not tried before. He stated yesterday that an acre of land, well manured, would yield six thousand heads of cabbage, that would average ten cents each, or six hum! • red dollars from an acre of ground. Five years ago he did not own a font of ground a»d was without money. He rented a small patch and sowed it in j cabbage. The yield was phenomenal, mil in a year or two lie bought the land, and began raising vegetables on a larger scale. To day lie is independ ent, and is actually growing rich off a Fop that l'.iu long been aegleetcd in the elainor for “king cotton.” Mr. Harrell is .-imply “one out of many there are other farmers in Baldwin county who have reaped similar re sults,” Wc commend Mr. Harrell’s experi ence to the truck growers of Thomas county.
