The Coming Camp Meeting.
As a matter of local interest ive pub
lish thn following from the Southwest
Georgian:
It is with pleasure we announce the
fact that Warren A. Candler, I). I).,
President of Emory College, will be
with us t our annual Camp Meeting
at Green Shade, which commences on
the 22nd of August. We expect also
other eminent ministers to he present.
G. A. Wight, Pres.
On the Right Line.
Mr. I). R. Collins drove to town
Saturday, a pair of match mules of his
own raising, which, for build and good
qualities, cannot be surpassed by those
from the IJ'uegrass of Kentucky.
Thousands ol dollars could he kept at
home every year, if our farmers would
pay more attention to this industry.—

Whist Party.
That was a delightful Whist parly at
the residence of Dr. T. M. McIntosh,
on Tuesday evening. The following
ladies and gentlemen paiticipated:
Misses Mattie Had, Mamie Met rill,
Ola .Mallette, Eva Elotard, Fannie
Evans and Emma McIntosh, and
Messrs. Frank Smith, Jo Ball, E. M.
Mallette, Cader Parker, Will Hall and
David Brandon. The playing was
kept up until n o'clock, and was
thoroughly enjoyed by the participants.
It was a bright and happy party, and
each, no doubt, will cherish the mem
ory of the delightful occasion.
A Bit of Real Estate History.
A paragraph recently appeared in
these columns, to the effect that Mr.
George Fearn had gone to Knoxville,
Tern. Something like eight years ago
Mr. Fearn came to Thomasville from
Florida, to ihich state he had moved
a few years before Irom Kentucky. He
signalized his coming to our town by
investing in a home, and during his
stay here he never lost confidence in
the value of Thomaiville real estate,
aud he was the pioneer in the develop
ment of suburban property. His first
purchase was the “Fearnsido” tract
from Mrs. Lester, which he rut up
into lots and sold off. He then bought
the “Magnolia Place,” from Mr. 1!. A.
Bass, and with his usual energy went
to work to improve it. Some of the
handsomest suburban homes about
the city have been built on these two
additions.
Mr. Fearn also dealtin centra! prop
erty and has sold as agent several
large tracts, notable “Cleveland Park”
and “Homewood,” the elegant former
home oi Mr. T, E. lilackshcar, lo Mr.
John W. Masury, of New York.
The very best wishes of the friends
of Mr. Fearn in this city will follow
him to his new home, and they will
gladly welcome him back next winter,
at which time he will return to look-
after his extensive interest.
The raco for governor, up to date,
lias been a very tame oue. The dog
days may bring about a warm state
of aflairs in gubernatorial matters.
It isn’t often that a man is allowed a
walk-over in Georgia for governor.

To Move Melons.
The Constitution publishes a de
tail outline of the big melon syndicate
recently organized by Mr. J. II. For
rester and others. According to that
paper the daily distribution of cars
has already been appointed among
the cities as follows, subject, of course,
to any exigency which may arise
during the season :
New York, 25 ears.
Boston, 25 ears.
Philadelphia, 10 ears.
Baltimore, 10 cars.
Cincinnati, 25 ears.
Chicago, 25 cars.
Columbus, Ohio, 10 cars.
Atlanta, 10 cars.
Macon, 5 cars.
Augusta, 5 cars.
Cnattanooga, 5 cars.
Nashville, 5 cars,
Memphis, 5 cars.
Louisville, 15 cars.
New Orleans, 15 cars.
Birmingham, 5 cars.

At this aggregate of 215 cars a day
the crop will he distributed in about
seven weeks, the usual run of a sea

Representatives of the exchange
will be stationed at every melon ship
ping station and will buy outright
or take cars on consignment, accord
ing to the agreement of the grower
with the exchange. All shipments
will 1)0 made under direction of Mr.
Forrester, who will direct thedistribu-
tion from Atlanta.
A Melon Combine.
Atlanta, Ha.,May 2'!.—There was
organized here to-day the Georgia
and Carolina exchange, with .1. II.
Forres ter of Albany as president, and
.1. J. A. Alvev of Atlanta as see-
ret ary. Of twenty thousand acres
planted in melons this year, it is as
serted that the owners of more than
nineteen thousand have signified
their intention of going into the ex
change. The plan includes the pur
chase outright or control of the entire
melon crop, the same to be sold in the
North through agents in di tie rent cit
ies. Some one commission matt in
each city will act a< the exchange's
agent. These men have already been
selected, and are, in fact, interested
financially in the organization.
