Mr. Alexander, pastor ol the Presbyteripq church at llainbridge, passed through here yesterday on bis way home from attending the Presby tenan Assembly at Ashville, N. C. Capt. T. N. Hopkins, Quartermas ter of the 7th Battalion, has been or dered by Lieut. Col. Wight to proceed to Augusta,in advance ol the battalion, to make suitable preparations lor the command. Dr. J. G. Hopkins received a pair of cute little Shetland ponies yester day morning from the famous Belle Meade Stock Fnrm near Nashville, Tettn. The ponies are now the small est in town. Architect Gunn ami his large force of carpenters and brick masons from here, who have been engaged at work on the opera building at Monticello, had to quit work Friday on account of the rain. They came up to spend Saturday oud Sttuday with their families. An excursion train of eight coaches pulled out from tlie depot early yes terday morning bound for Jackson- ville. Several hundred colored peo ple were on board, and about twenty- live or thirty whites occupied the rear coach,which was reserved for their use. The train left Jacksonville last night and will return early this morning. Deputy Singletary arrested Jim Davis, colored, yesterday morning, on two indictments found by the Grand July, one charging him with disturb ing public worship, aud the other with carry concealed weapons. Davis will have the'honor of being the first pris oner arrested and placed in the new jail. Call meeting of the Board of Trus tees of Clay street school. Chairman II. .T. Mitchell railed the meeting to order. After stating the object of the call, which was to correct certain rumor affecting the reputations of Randal J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and Clias. Rice, as well as that of the whole hoard, set afloat by Rev. II. R. Downs and other preachers,'the following resolution was offered by Jackson Hamilton. llexoU'ed. That tlie hoard of trustees of tlie Clay street colored school ten der R. J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and Charles Rice their hearty thanks for the purchase of our school lot, the fi nancial aid which they have given in the erection of tlie school building, and the generous contributions which they have made from time to time for the school house, also for the fairness and honest intention shown on their part, in making to us a deed of trust for the patrons of this school. Jlctolveil, That the failure to have said deed of trust recorded, was notan intention on their part to defraud the public and patrons of this school, but a delay on the part of the hoard of trustees, because they did not have sufficient money to spare from the ex pense of erecting the school building. The board of trustees have held the deed ever since March 27, 1880 ; and he it further Remlml, That we denounce as false and groundless the charges which have been made against R. J. Mitchell, J. C. Few and Charles Rice, and we en dorse their actions throughout, ns re gards the management of the school lot. The following was ottered by Mr. Aaron Jones: AVhcrcns, Principal Charles Rice our building and soliciting agent, has tendered to the patrons of the Clay street school such efficient services in securing funds and pushing forward the business of this board of trustees, and sacrificed so much time and mon ey to make a success of the work. Whereas, AA'c have unshaken con fidence in his honesty and integrity ot character, be it Rc.mh'cil, That we tender to him, for tlie patrons of the Clay street chool and in behalf of this board of trustees, our highest gratitude and thanks for the honest aud able man ner in which he has conducted the business of the school entrusted to him.
