Census enumerators are not allowed
to give away the population of any
town, city, district, or county. What
if they should forget and tell their
wives? Then it would spread.
Capt. Paine sharpened his census
pencil and started on his rounds yes
terday morning. And so did the
other enumerators throughout the
country.

The citizens of the town can aid
much toward securing a full aud ac-

Fatal Results ol the Excursion.
The excursion to Jacksonville, Fla.,
was not without the usual fatal re
sults of such occasions. Dr. Morris,
a young doctor of Homcrvillo, who
had just graduated and started out on
his professional career was the victim.
The one who struck the blow was Mr.
1 lam, a bartender of Valdosta. Botli
were young white men. The partic
ulars, as related hy parties from here
v. ho went on the excursion are as fol
lows :
.Soon after leaving Callahan on the
return trip Friday night, Dr. Morris
who had been drinking, engaged in a
quarrel with young Ham. The latter
told him to go off and leave him
alone, as he lmd come on the excur
sion for pleasure and not for a quur-
rel. Seeking to a void a fuss with Mor
ris, whom lie knew was under the
influence of whisky, Ham went into
the refreshment car: Morris followed
him and after a few words put on a
pair of brass l nucks, and struck
Ham a severe blow in the face and
at the same time pulled out his pistol.
As soou as Ham could recover suffici
ently from the cfiects of the assault,
he struck Morris a powerful blow,
knocking him through the open door
ot the ear. The train was going
about twenty miles an hour, and the
fall broke the young man’s neck
killing him instantly, flam jumped
ofl at the next station hut will prob
ably give himself up.
Scents, Cents and Sense.
The Bainbridgc Democrat of last
week says tnat Thomasville is about
to become a railroad center, instead of
a railroad muter, as heretofore. AA'e
commend these thoughts to our able
cotemporary. Thomasville usually
carries as much sense as most of her
neighbors, perhaps a few more cent.*
than some of them, and certainly
fewer scents than any of them. She
is hound to become a railroad center
and in the meantime she lias no dis
position to lie tlie neentrr ut the fail
ures, shortcomings or other disparage
ments that belong to her neighbors
and friends.
Schedule Changes.

fast trains on the Alabama Midland,
for Montgomery and the West.
