Young Female College Chapel will
be packed to-night. Go early if you
would get a desirable seat.
The County Commissioners were in
session yesterday, the regular term
having been adjourned over from the
first until the second Monday.
Our Cairo contemporary speaks
hopefully of the LcConte pear crop,
and predicts large shipments from that
point. The general opinion around
here is that the crop is going to be
short, but that good prices will be rea
lized in consequence of the limited
supply. LeConte pears will bring
good prices this year.
Say, Boys!
The Times-Entf.rprise has, recent
ly, in several instances, referred to the
unnecessary noise, and, in some in
stances, bad behavior of the boys, and
perhaps older ones, too, at the com
mencements of Young Female Col
lege. This has never been the case
at the South Georgia College, where
good order has always been, as a rule,
preserved. Now, the girls at Young
Female College are entitled to the re
spect of every one who attends their
commencement. It is not respectful
to them, to President Baker, the facul
ty, or the audience, to keep up a use
less and annoying racket during the
progress of th$ exercises.
AVe understand that extra precau
tions have been taken this year to pre
serve order, and those who go there to
make a noise and not to hear will find
themselves spoiled very quickly.

Little Tots.
While the larger girls nud boys are
standing their final examinations for
the term in the two colleges, we would
not forget to notice some of the bright
little ones who are having their own
commencements in the primary
schools. Mrs Mary J. Smith, who
teaches an excellent private school on
Jefferson street, had an interesting
examination of her pupils on Friday.
The following was the program :

The condition ol our farmers is im

plication are the keys to success here

The Ochlockonee River Flowing
Through Great Beds of
Phosphate.
A correspondent of the Whigham
Advance writes as follows:
“Speaking about the Ochlockonee
river reminds me that the people liv
ing and owning land along its banks,
and adjacent Mats, are just now on the
verge of an immense boom. It is in
the nature of a phosphate boom. Mr.
I lelacy,representing theGunby Jordan
Railroad magnate, has beet, quietly
prospecting for several months, up and
down the river, and has just completed
his explorations. He says he is satis
fied that phosphate ot a high grade
exists in comparatively inexhaustible
beds. He has a drawn contract signed
by 32 land owners along the river to
the effect that his company is to build
a railroad anddevelopc the mines and
let the owners have half the proceeds.
Mr. Delacv has returned to Colum
bus with the samples of the rock pro
cured from the beds for further analy
sis. They should prove as rich as he
says they are for he himself is an ex
pert chemist. The company will com
mence to build the line of railroad
through to Tallahassee. Mr. Delacv
went about bis work of prospecting in
a very quiet manner, under the dis
guise of a hunter with dogs and gun,
but he always had a pick and hoe con
venient. H<> located several beds that
came to the surface along the banks
of the river and contiguous streams that
proved beyond question the existence
of phosphate.
The Pear Crop.
Some persons are much discouraged
as to the LeConte pear crop, believing
there will ho little more than half a
crop.
After careful observation and en
quiry we have come to the conclusion
that uuless there is some disaster to
the crop, there will he fully as many
pears shipped from Cairo this yenr as
last. As a rule the old trees have but
few pears on them, but the deficiency
will he fully made tip by the young
tree:; that arc coming into bearing.
Last spring almost every one thought
there would be but few pears, hut the
crop turned out to he the largest ever
produced here. Wo know of one or
chard whore there will lie fifty bush
els this year to one last.—Southwest
Georgian.
