The Constitution of yesterday, refer ring to the fact that the project had been dragging, says: “But it seems now that work is to he pushed again, and an Atlanta man figures prominently in this change of affairs. “This is Captain J. T. James, the contractor. ‘•The Evening News, of Augusta, says: By the willing and patriotic co operation of officers and stockholders the two projected lines to Florida, known as the Augusta and West Florida and the T. J. James route, have becu combined under a new man agement, and the new president will be Win. Bailey, of New York, and the vice-president will be James II. Jackson, of Augusta. “Mr. Bailey is one of the largest cap italists in New York, nnd is in Au gusta perfecting organization nnd ar rangements with the new construction company, which will build the line. Mr. Jackson is already well known, and his experience in railroad and fi nancial circles fit him peculiarly for his position. He is the broker who has just placed the bonds of the com pany in New York, thus guarantee ing the construction of the road. "The new construction company is made up of men of ample capital in New York and Georgia, and contracts are to-day being drawn and arranged between the road officials nnd the offi cers of the construction company. The parties interested in New York, Augusta, Thomasville nnd elsewhere are satisfied with present arrangements nnd arc heartily pleased with the pros pects. “The rumor that president Jesse Thompson, of the old construction company, had sold out, or that presi dent C. E. Smith, of the old railroad company, had sold out, are all bosh. They nnd Captain James are more interested in the new construction company and railroad than ever, and will enthusiastically and practically aid in its building. “Another thing. The line will he constructed even farther than Thom- nsvillc. It will lie extended to Jesup and a solid ccnnection with Florida points. “A northern connection will also be established at Augusta, with one of the two lines, but cot witli the Rich mond and Danville.'’ In the above connection we may re fer to the fact that Col. A. P. Wright, one of the directors of the road, and who is taking a deep interest in the enterprise, received yesterday, a letter from a prominent official of the sys tem in Augusta, full of hope and bright promise. One of the Trust Companies in New York, will act as trustee for the new system. The out look grows brighter for the comple tion of the road, not only from Au gusta to Thomasville, but from this point to the coast. What They Claim. Forrester’s Melon Exchange claims that they will control ninety per cent of this season’s melon crop. They claim to have the signatures to back their assertion. Parties from Chicago say that the commission merchants who are not favored by the exchange arc very blue over tin: action of the growers. HOTEL IVLOLTTZE SJLLsTO OPENS .JUX,Y 1*1, 1890. Jr., that will lie disposed of for the benefit of the Thomas Ilussnrs, in the following manner : Write your guess of the population of Thomasville and name on a slip of paper and drop it with a dime into a slot in an hermetically scaled jar. As soon as the result of the census now being taken is announced from the department in Washington, the party making the nearest guess to the popu lation of the city will l e entitled to the watch. This is a splendid opportunity to help the Hussars, nnd at the same time give an opportunity for making a suitable anil acceptable present to your wife or sister. If you have neither, you can give the watch to your best girl. Drop iu at Mr. Thomas’ and make your guess. The guessing polls will lie closed several days before the taking of the census is finished, so that everybody will have an equal chance. Public Administrator. Mr. M. A.
