We have now gotten virtually bro ken in, and every thing is moving smoothly on in the appointed way. We had a rather rough trip, but not so bad as we anticipated. We had a special cnr'to Savannah, and quite a number took the sleeper at Du l’ont, and enabled those who remained in the car to make themselves comforta hie Sr comparatively so, for the night. On reaching the city we were transfer red at once to the camp, and after a short delay were comfortably qunitcr- ed. Yester day the whole command turned out for dress parade. It was a grand dis play, and was enjoyed by quite a turn out of the citizens. The weather is too warm to make it pleasant for the hoys to travel around town much, so they stay in camp pretty closely. The Guards compare very well with any company here in pretty much nil respects, and ns to their behavior >n camp, and ou the trip here, they have shown them selves to he first-class gentlemen. C. The Committee Meets. The committee of ladies invited by the Hussars to meet at the Library yesterday afternoon to confer with a committee from the Hussars, in re gard to the programme, and the most important part of it, of the 4th of July Tournament was a success. There was not a full attendance of the ladies, hut the number present was quite enough to start the hall in mo tion. The lady friends of the Hus sars will serve the public with dinner and supper 011 the 4th, and it may lie inferred from the reputation of the ladies that have the matter in charge, that the public has cause to congratulate itself. A committee of youilg ladies was appointed to make canvass of the city; and they amis to our state, with the proviso aro '"'gently requested to meet at Mrs. Scott’s this morning at !l o’clock to perfect the details of this work These arc the voting ladies. This contract is explained as follow W lien the General Government ap propriated proceeds of the sale of pub lic ' that such appropriations should go to the support of an Agricultural Col lege, the Daliloncga institution was in position to accept the bonus, which it diil. .Afterwards the income from the bonds in which the land scrip fund had been invested was surrendered by the Daliloncga school to the State Uni very, on condition that the Uni versity pay to said school the sum of 821)00 per annum. By the action of the University, the South Georgia Branch College at this place, ami the schools of the same character in other parts of the state, are cut off from all participation in the land scrip fund income, and nni.-t literally paddle their own canoes. In our case the state universit holds (lie deed to the valuable property in !• h'tclicrvillo and Thomnsville holds what Faddy got after a day’s hard fishing—nothing. The appropriation from the uni versity tor the past fycar was 8550, aud the difference between that and nothing is no> very great, so far it could have any eflcet on the life ot our school. The Times l-.'xTKiii'iiisi-: spoke AVednesdny morning of a poor white man that had been sent here from Washington county Fla., AVilliam Mathias by name. He was taken to the Four House Tuesday afternoon, lint his deadly disease had fastened itself too strong.sy on him, and lie died Wednesday. The poor fellow told a pitiable tale of his brother's cruelly and hcartlcssness, and while it seems almost incredible that one brother could treat another so, it seems as unnatural to suppose that a mail would go out into the great unknown with falsehood in his heart, and on his lips. It seems that when the father of the two brothers died lie left, them quite a comfortable property, hut the elder one took it all, and w hen disease fastened itself 011 the poor fellow that ilied here, his brother kicked him out, and sot him adrift, Let us hope that he lias gone where man’s inlmmonity cannot reach him, and that the inhumanity he suffered here may recoil on the man that practiced it.
