It would almost make an edi tor want to quit his paper aud run a farm, to see some of the crops of the farmers. Itcv. T. A. White is conducting series of meetings at Salem church uear Fatten, and much interest manifested. Messrs. G'layton and Wesley Pea cock, formerly of Thomas county, but now of Texas, are at their old home McDonald. May their stay he pleas ant. During a severe thunder storm on the 20ih inst., Miss Minnie Hancock daughter of Mr. J. It. Hancock, was slightly shocked by lightning. Mr. John Culpepper, a Thomas county boy who has distinguished himself at the State University, is vis iting friends in this section. John ranking rapid strides toward the top of the hill of knowledge. Tho closing exercises of Miss Josc- phiuc Mnrkett’s school was a brilliant afTnir ; the. speeches, readings and re citations were well rendered; after they were over, came a regular pic nic dinner. Now, much has been said and written about dinners on such occasions, and somo mighty nice thing said, which is likely to eclipse anything we can say. You sec it was right on the county line, and the crowd was about equally divided be tween the counties. Old Thomas prides horself on hospitality, Brooks docs too, and they just tiied to see who could bring the biggest box. and as we surveyed from a sacred near ness the long tables piled up nearly a foot high with good things, every hnir on our head seemed to he on end. If you were to ask any farmer in this section whom he wanted to rep resent him in the Senate, ho would say Boh Mitchell. So do I. Raymond, W. K. T. B. H. WOLFF & BRO. The Leaders of Low Prices. New Sweet Potatoes Mr. L. C. Varnedoe has new sweet potatoes. This is the earliest date on record fornew potatoes, at least in this section. One specimen lie showed a Timks-Entkki-ki.sk reporter, was four inches long and three inches in diameter, a good size potato lor any season. He had several others nearly as large. The potatoes are a cross belwceu the Parrot and the West India yams. Quick Work. Last week Mr. A. B. Carter ship ped from Meigs Ga., a car of melons to Cincinnati, via Nashville, Chatta nooga and St. Louis Ry. Sunday the car was caught in n wreck. Tues day Mr. J. A. Sams telegraphed Mr. M. II. Conually agent of the line to sec Mr. Carter, aud mnkc arrange ments for an immediate settlement with him for the oar. This is prompt work, and cannot fail to he appreciated by shippers, and besides it will serve as an excellent model for some of the roads that allow such claims to grow hoary with age before they are settled. Mr. John West has gone to St. Si mons Island for several days. St. Si mons and Cumberland Islands arc get ting very popuiar with the Thomas- villc people, and deservedly so, for they have as Cno beaches as can be found on the Atlantic Coast.
