Let every democrat in the county attend the mass meeting on the 12th inst. _ When the Lord made shade the devil invented loafers —Atchinsoa Globe. It Is Revolution. The Northern Democrats have awakened to the idea that the Lodge biil Is 7 revolution. They propose to fire the northern heart with this vital idea, and hold meetings in every town, village and hamlet north of the Ohio river. This is the way, after all, to reach this iniquitous measure. The people must speak, and it must be the people of tiie north. This is usurpa tion of the rights of the people eveiy- where, and voters in Maine are just as thoroughly menaced as voters of Mis sissippi. T his usurpation will be put upon every section of the Union, and it now looks like revolution would not be consummated without serious and earnest protest. The people of the south will play no aggressive part in dus new drama, But we are greatly mistaken if the re publican partv does not find t'lat the spirit of civil lrberty is just as sensitive and as powerful in the north as it was in the south. The people are aroused.—Augusta Chronicle. The weather and politics „re both growing hot. Volapuk will never come into gen eral use: there are no cuss words in the language. There is some talk of reviving the Blair educational bill in the house. Good Lord! We hope Jud. Clements will pull throngh in the 7th. He has made a splendid representative in congress. Savannah is kicking about the mix ture of river and artesian water being used in that place. The Times says it is no good. Macon is in the throes of an ice famine. And then she has a candi date for governor in the field,’ and things are mighty hot thereabouts. Brunswick is kicking about her pop ulation. The census men says it is only 10,000. Every one in the city is ready to swear to more than that. She—Come get up, you silly fellow, and tell me how we are to live; we cannot live on love, you know. He— No; but we can live on love’s father. i , Those who put a low estimate on Northen's strength, will find themselves very much mistaken. Northen will cany the state, in the primaries, by a large majority. Stswart and Livingston had their first joint debate at Douglassville, in the 5th districs, on Saturday. Thou sands outside of the district hope to see Stewart renominated. Editor Shepard ot the Mail and Ex press still sniffs treason in every south ern breeze. Editor Shepard holds his nose with one hand, while he indites fiery editorials with the other. Stewart has paired with a republican and will give his undivided attention to Leonidas Livingston from now until the convention in the 5th. The public wishes Mr. Stewart well. Hon. William Sprague, ex-United States senator, ex-governor of Rhode Island, ex-raanutacturer and ex-hus band of Kate Chase Sprague, is now chief of police at Narragansett Pier, Boss Buck is in Washington putting in some of his dirty work in the post office department. He and the saint ly Wanamaker appear to be running Georgia post offices to suit themselves It seems to be a foregone conclusion _ that the house will pass a federal elec tion law. Will the Senate deleat it. Democrats of Thomas county should not forget their mass meeting on the izth of July. Col. C. M. Snelling, commandant of the university battalion, will carry the boys to Atlanta, where they will contest in the drill at the great exposi tion this fad, The university boys, under Col. rillbchard to down. The niggers and the mules appear to be standing the hot weather pretty well. They kinder seem to like it. Col. Hardeman will not make enough of a diversion, to encourage any dark horse to trot out. Northen will be nominated on the first ballot. Remember this prediction. The federal election bill was taken up again in the house yesterday. It is expected that a vote will be taken on it to-morrow A few republicans will not swaliow it; but not enough to defeat it. Willie—Papa, is that tho President of the United at the head ol the pro cession ? Papa (in an awe-struek whisper—Hush. Willie! He’ll hear you. He’s’ the {drum major.—Ex change. The nomination of Delamater, Quay’s man, Friday, for governor of Pennsylvania, hasn’t elicited any large amount of enthusiasm. Qn the con trary, the best clement in the party in that state, are opposed to the nomi nation. But Quay is boss. He asks them ; what are you going to do about it? jwaglaSrly roasted bn Sun- day. The Constitution says: “Brother Blaine has been quiet too long, and now Mr. Tom Reed has the republi can party by the tail.” Blaine is making some vigorous effoits to get the animal by the cars; and he may succeed, though Reed’s tail hold appears to be a pretty solid performance, at the present juncture ot affairs. Among the fossilized remains which will probably be on exhibition at the world's fair in Chicago, will be those of R. B. Hayes, and B. Foraker. They will he pointed out by lecturers as the curiosities of the cxpos'tion, as ocular evidence that dead men do yet live. The Boston World asks: “When will Thomas have her primaries ? For ol course she will have them. The old cut and dried fashion of con ventions, are a thing of the past.” Ihe date of the primary will be fixed by the mass meeting, called for the i*th, at the court house in Thomas ville. It lias been a number of years since the inauguration of the primaries. In fact Thomas was one of the first counties in the state to lead ofl on the new line; and she has never had any cause to regret her action. Primaries give every one a fair chance.
