Macons ice famine i* over and that
city has cooled down again.
The process of putting the rascals
in, still goes on in Washington.
Georgia lias a strong delegation
congress; and she should keep it there.
And now Dr. Brown-Sequard bobs
up again, wiih another new fangled
idea.
The bloody shirts is still used by
the republicans. They’ll wear it out,
after awhile, maybe.
Czar Reed said congress would ad.
journ by the ist of July. Congress
hasn’t adjourned. Reed lied.
The Harrisons haven’t been given
a present of any kind for two or three
days. Is the republic ungrateful?
States are born in a day now. The
Senate passed the bill admitting Idaho
to the sisterhood ot states, yesterday.
There is a general feeling of relief
(clt all over the state now that the state
road is leased at a big rental, for
twenty-nine years.
There were several lady census enu
merators in New York, during the
late count. They just went for the
family history.
The committee have finally located
the Worlds Fair on the lake front, in
Chicago. An injunction will be filed
by adjoining property owners, to pre
vent the buildings from being erected
there.
O’Donnell of Michigan introduced a
duplicate of the Blair educational bill,
in the house yesterday. One good
thing: Blaw isn’t in the house to talk
the country to death on the bill.
O’Donnell and the bill should be
squelched.
Tilnian has raised a storm in South
Carolina. Even Wade Hampton the
peerless old man, who fought for South
Carolina, is powerless to stay the mad
waves. They threaten to engulf ev
ery thing and every body.
The Columbus Enquirer-Sun says
that it has been rumored that Judge
Guerry would be a candidate for con
gress in the second district, but he says
that under no conditions or circum
stances will he be in the race.
What nbout the weather lor this
month; will it be cooler or hotter?
Where is Wiggins? Where is
Grecly? Where is Bondurant?
Where is some one who will hold
the mercury down during July.
This is original: If some men used
half as much industry in providing
means for payment of their debts, as
they do ingenuity in framing excuses
iu deluging payment of them, the col
loclor aud the book keeper would
have an easier time.
The coal barons are already, it is
said lorming combines to put the price
of coal up this winter. The weather
lor the past few weeks has not encour
aged coal dealers. It has, however,
been mighty cncourngeiug to ice deal-
era*.
Six or nine rooms in the cottage
presented to the Harrisons (by some
parties who expect a fat office) have
been reserved for Baby McKee. One
aero and a quarter of sand bed, near
the premises, have also been set apart
for Baby McKee. A small area, with
soil suitable for making mud pies, hns
been surveyed, platted and deeded to
the Baby.
Southern Women.
| ■ iod bless the women of the south
They have beep true to the boys in
grey; true to husbands, brothers
fathers and sweethearts; true to die
memory of a cause, which though lost
is still to memory dear. No marble
shaft rears its head anywhere in South'
ern sunlight, to the memory of Dixie’]
dead, but that it has been partially, at
least, shaped and reared by woman'
hand. No grave is so humble, where
sleeps a confederate soldier, that some
southern woman, docs not strew it
with flowers, kneel beside the inani
mate dust, and water the neglected
spot with her tears. In her heart of
hearts,"she carries the memory of those
who died tor home and loved ones.
A movement has been started—ar.d
it should be carried out—to erect
somewhere in tire south, a monument
to southern women.
Diseasing the subject, the New
Orleans Times Democrat, says
“To the women of the Confederacy
we must now rise and say, we love
you because you loved us; we honor
you, because you suffered for us ; we
venerate you because of your greatness
in moments of sacrifice, and we cherish
your memory because it speaks to us
of true womanhood, of noble deeds, ot
the best that woman can do and give
in time of war.
Men and women of the south, let
monument be raised to the women
the confederacy, in testimouy of all
that is their due.
The unwritten history of the confed'
eracy is illuminated with the love, the
devotion, the constancy, the heroism
and the unsurpassed self abnegation
of its women.
Those of them who have been laid
away to rest with husbands, sons and
brothers, whe met the fate of so'diers,
have left their impress upon the limes;
those of them who have survived the
mighty struggle that shook this country
from center to circumference, will yet
live to see justice done to the true
hearted, the loyal, the heroic, the
noble women of tee southern confed
eracy.”
Turner of Albany Smells Snlphur.
Turner, of the News and Advertiser
is growing net vous about the strong
aroma of sulphur in and a'ouiid Al
bany’s artesian wells. He evidently
thinks it is not exceedingly far to that
region where delinquent subset ibers
are supposed to be using palmetto fans,
clothed in light apparel, apparel suit
able to a climate where Jay Gould will
probadly offer ten thousand dollars a
pound for ice.
The smell of sulphur is calculated,
when you come to think about it to
make people a little “nervious,”
Henry McLendon would say.
But Turner, you’re all right; stick
to your democracy; fight the sub.
treasaiy plan ; fire into Livingston;
give the republicans and the devil fits;
warm up the demagogues, and the
fumes ot sulphur will have no terrors
for you, When the procession starts
up yonder, you will have a place
in it, though it may not be at the head;
but you will be found in line; found
where all goodly newspaper men will
be found; not far from the front of the
procession.
They May be Forgiven.
The ground will be torn up in Geor
gia, this year. Great areas will show
how fierce the fight for office was,
Hair, suspenders, buttons, fragments
of cloth, with here and there a piece
of flesh, will be found scattered around
over the various battle fields. Many
badly bunged up politicians will be
dragged out by their friends, after the
fray is over. They will hardly be re
cognized by their families, though they
will still claim to be respectable mem
bers of society. And their families
may forgive and take them back again.
Col. Henry Watterson has been
casting the horoseppe of the political
future, and has given out the following
predictions, which .may well cause re
publicans to tremble: The democrat
will sweep the Union fore and aft-this
fall. All that Tom Reed and the
other fat rascals, who form this Fal-
staffian cabal, can do in the south will
not make up to them the losses in the
north, the east and the west. The
grand old parly has had its day. Its
time has come at last. The next six
months will dig its grave.”

Hardeman out of the Race.
As foreshadowed in yesterday’s
Tisies.Enterpbise. Col. Hardeman
lias formally withdrawn Irom the race
lor governor. He docs >o at the
earnest solicitation of his Yamily physic
ian, who tells him that his health will
not permit him to make the canvass.
Col. Hardeman gracefully yields to
the inevitable, and in a patriotic letter
withdraws from the contest. There is
not a truer democrat in the whole
state of Georgia than Tom Hardeman.
He has never faltered or flickered
anywhere.
