Sargent, of Savannah, has been spending a couple of days in the city, calling on his customers. Mr. EHis Powell has been appointed agent at Metcalfe, to take the place oi Mr. Miller, who has lately been transferred to Hardaway. Dr. T. S. Hopkins left yesterday for Milledgeville, to attend a meeting ol the tiustees of the State Asylum, of which lie is a member. He will also stop in Macon. The public schools of the county are now in full blast. Thomasville is full of resources, hut those who hold the situation will not unlock the vaults. Prosperity is not dependent on a few individuals. Your widow’s mite of push and energy will help to solve difficult questions of our town’s pros perity. Our friends need not ho afraid of wounding our tender conscience by bringing nice, ripe, juicy melons to this office. Newspaper meu have a weakness for such things, like other mortals. We promise that the mel oils shall not spoil for lack of imme diate attention. Mr. and Mis. George Field and Miss Nannie Philpot left yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Fields go to their old home in Virgiuia, where Mrs. Fields will remain duiing the summer. Miss Philpot will stop at Nashville, and from there will make a trip to ('Imttanoogu ami other points. Mr. Fields will return from Virginia in about two weeks. Council Proceedings. July 7, 1890. Council met in regular session, Mayor Hopkins presiding. Aldermen Wright, Hayes, Merrill, Wise and Patten, present. Minutes last meeting read and con firmed. Petition of Win. Parker to transfer license to Twiggs Young, was gran ted. Chairman street committee was authorized to purchase lumber to repair bridges. Mayor Hopkins mid Aldermcu Ilnyes and Patten were appointed to confer with Mrs. Bower ami Mr. Davies about advertising the city.
