The line has carried millions of passengers and has never lost one. The time across the Atlantic since its lirst ship started has been reduced from fournteen days to six. The progress in steam navi gation has lieen decidedly gicater than that in railroad management, and though many people shudder nt the idea of an ocean voyage, statistics show that it is much safer to travel by sea limn by land.—Telegraph. Tho Home Paper’s Position No paper can be published without home patronage, and every iiuili is interested in keeping up a home paper. If a railroad or factory is wanted the newspapers are expected to work for it. If a public meeting is wanted for any purpose, the newspaper is called upon (or a free notice. If any of the societies have a supper or reception any kind, the newspaper is expected to give tho necessary notice. The newspaper must puff the schools and everything else to advance the interests of the bus* iness men of the place, nnd then give them a handsome notice when they pass] away. And yet some of them do nothing to keep up a home paper. — Ha van mill Independent.
