AI.BF.BT WINTER, Bus. itlnn. Stand by Turner. Congressman Lester is sick. Minneapolis had a million dollar fire yesterday. “Benny” has signed the silver bill, and it is now a law. The flow ol watermelons north and west, is slacking up. One thousand houses were destroy ed by fire in Constantinople on Tues day. Tennessee democrats are holding their state convention to nominate a governor. Turner is one of the ablest men in congress. Such men are badly needed just now. Snow was reported in the Alps, yes terday. Let’s all go over to Italy, for a few weeks, Early county has insiructed her dele gates to the congressional convention, tor Turner. Good for old Early. It is said that Messrs. Glauber and Isaac’s loss in the Brunswick fire, was $4« ,ooo. They were insured for $16,- ooo. Fulton held her primary yesterday for members of the legislature. There were seven candidates in the field— and tour of them were left. The thermometer tipped the beam at 104 in Omaha and Kansas City, on Sunday, Whew 1 Come down south and cool off. And now they have to investigate ension agent Raum. The pemion department appears to be rotten to the very core. The cotton crop is reported in fair condition, all through the south. The old king still holds sway, and the world pays him homage. Senator Gorman has taken com mand of the democratic forces in the senate. The democrats will fight the force bill to the very last. • # ■ # ■ It is now generally conceded that the republicans in the senate will adopt a rule to cut off the democrats from debating the force bill. O, shame, where is thy blush. Republican senators have made up their minds to choke off debate in that body on the force bill. Hereto fore debate in the senate has been un limited. 11 * | j Sunday was a ssorchcr out west. The mercury went up to 104 at Keo kuk, la., and at Carthage in Illinois, it went to 109. Sun strokes were numerous, The storm in the west, noticed in these columns yesterday, was very destructive. An excursion steamer on Lake Pepin, capsized in the middle of the lake, with one hundred and fifty excursionists. Over one hundred were drowned. Dispatches from Washiugton say that the negroes In the district of Columbia have become very insolent since the passage of the force bill by the house. What may we expect in the south, if the bill is put in opera tion? The secretary of the treasury will soon issue some new designs in U. S. notes. Tbe vignettes will Generals, McPherson, 1 and Sheridan, and ex-Secre tary Morrill, and ex-president Harri son. Send ours with General Thomas’, if you please. Florida Alliancemen Strike Out the Sub-Treasury Plan. We beg to cad ihe attention of Thomas county alliancemen to the fact that Mr. Rogers, president of the Florida state alliance, lips struck out the sub-treasury plan from the plat form ol 1 he order in that stale. The Morning News, in commenting on the action ol Mr, Rogers, says : Mr. Rogers seems to be a very level headed man. He says that he does not intend that the alliance of Florida shall be nade a political machine. He is certainly wise in taking that position. If the alliance ol Florida, or any o;her state, permits itself to be political organization, it will soon cease to be of any Benefit to its members, and will gradually decline in influence and numbers until it ceases to com mand attention and respect, l’oli ticians may use it for a while to get office, and it may think that it has ac complishcd wonders if it succeeds in electing a few congressmen and state legislators and in helping some ol its members into public offices of profit, but, as a matter of fact, it will be no nearer the objects for which it was or ganized when it has done these things, than it was when it first came into ex istence. Preserve Your Manhood, The Macon Telegraph says: “Some cf the farmers’ alliances in Georgia are passing resolutions declaring that they will expel any member who votes against anyone whom they recom mend or nominate for public office. What is that in the alliance constitu tion which says it will have nothing to do with politics or religion ? It is said that the oath taken by an allianceman docs not interfere with his religion or his politics. He may be a Methodist. Baptist, Presbyterian, Catholic, or belong to any other relig ious denomination ; and he may vote the republican, democratic, or any other ticket. If this be true, then no allianceman is bound to vote for any particular man. He is left, like all freemen, to vote for whom he pleases. And this is the safeguard, the bulwark of liberty and freedom. A Bitter Chicago Radical. E. W. B.,” writing from Washihg- ton to the Constitution, says: The southern democrats in the house want to know if Representative Mason, of Chicago, represents the sentiment of the people of the world’s fair city. Mason made the most bitter and scurrilous attacks upon the people of the south in his speech in the force bill that have ever been heard on the floor of the house. If the people ol Chicago believe as he does, and entertain the same opinion of the people of the southern states, the southern men here say that the south should let the world’s fair sever ally alone. The bloody shirt is popular in Chi cago. It is a good place for southern people to—slay away from. Reed will probably go over and preside in the senate during the de bate on the force bill. It is said that under the new ap portionment, Maine will lose a con gressman. Let it be Reed. The country can spare him. Will Guerry accept the endorsement of the alliancemen, swallow their yard stick, and make the race against Tur nor, is the question ol the hour. The melon exchange has removed to Albany, and its affairs will be wound up there underJMessrs. J. R. Forrester, Graham Forrester and Mr. Doyle, bookkeeper. Col.C. B. Wooten has been in At lanta, and the Constitution says he will r.ot be in the race for congress in this district. Dougherty county will go for Turner. Although Private John Allen was not a candidate for re-election in the first district, the returns Irom Satur day’s primaries show that lie has swept the district, and will be nominated on the 16th by the Tupelo convention by a cclamation. The pension charges arc becoming alarming. Fully one half 01 the entire revenues of the country will be re quired to pay pensions; to pay men, thousands and thousands of them, who are not entitled to support lrom the government. Look out for scalawags, carpet baggers, and federal bayonets around southern polling places, il the lorce bill passes the senate. The south had a taste ol this scum during the days of reconstruction. She will bravely meet them again. SulphurSprings, Suwanee, Florida. -SUMMER RATES For 1890. fl2.o0 per week, single person. |10.">0 per week each, where two occupy one room. Address L.W.
