Pear Growers Meeting.
finite n number of penr growers
met in Judge W. D. Mitchell’s office
yesterday morning to discuss the peitr
problem, and the Inst methods for
obtaining better prices, the present
season,
Mr. II. II. Sanford was culled to
the chair, and Capt. Winter was re-
ipi.sicd to act us secretary.
After considerable discussion in
which the object of the meeting was
brought out, by resolution the chair-
appointed the following committee to
adopt resolutions that would embody
the sense of the meetiug, committee :
Judge W. D. Mitchell, Messrs T. E.
Biacksbear and W. B. Jloddenbery.
The resolutions are as follows :
Whcraes, In view of the fact that tho
prices for T.c Conte pears received up
to this date, in N. Y. have been
unsatisfactory to the shippes, con
sidering the very short crop.
Resolved, By the fruit growers of
tins comity, that steps he taken at
once to distribute the crop, so that
no market will be over stocked, anil
to that end we recommend that fewer
shipment lie made to New York,
Resolved, That other shipping
points in the pear section, be requested
to co-operate with us.
Afnr Mime discussion the resolu
tions were adopted.
It was stated by several members
of the A-soeiation, tlmt pear ship
ments from this place receive very
careless and rough handling, to the
detrimont of the fruit, mid that it was
often the ease that the crates and bar
rels were left by the transportation
companies on the platform, exposed
to the direct rays of the sun.
The following resolution was intro
duced and ndopted to meet the emer
gency :
Whereas, Complnint having reached
this Association, of the rough hand
ling of the barrels aud crates of fruit,
at the depot in this place.
Resolved, Flint the attention of the
Express authorities be called to this
matter, to the end that they give each
shipment careful handling.
The secretary was requested to
communicate with fruit growers at
other points, in order that they might
he induced to co operate 'vith the
Thomas county growers. It was urg
cil that in view of the exceeding short
ness of the crop, it was especially de
sirable that prompt action be taken
in order that growers may realize the
best possiblo prices for their fruit.
It was requested that the proceed
ings of the meeting bo published in
the city paper, and that nil papers in
tlie|iear licit bo requested to copy, and
that papers lie sent to nil commission
men likely to lie interested.
Meeting adjourned.

Midway Munchings.
I know the Times-Enteri'Risi-:
feels nn interest in the allairs of the
farmer, and that it will allow me a
brief space in which to tell of some of
the prosperous farms and homes ot
this neighborhood. Midway Acade
my is four miles southeast of Cairo,
and has given the name to the section.
There are other prosperous sections of
our grand old county, hilt we of Mid
way believe we hnvo as good as the
best.
Not many days since, a number of
us decided that we would make an
inspection of a few of the farms that
lie alomr tho road from Midway Acad
emy to Centennial church l was tn-
ken along to tell the story of what we
saw to the world, because all newspa
per men are supposed to he truthful,
if nothing else.
Wo made a start at the farm of
Esquire Z. E. Norton ; besides having
a prosperous, well kept and promising
crop, he is building a new cottage,
which will add very much to the com
fort of his family, and to the appear
ance of the charming location on
which lie is building.
Next we come to the farm of Mr.
Henry Miller. His crops shows well,
cotton a little backward, perhaps, hut
corn very promising. A half mile
away Mr. Thomas E. Dickey has his
home; his crop is looking splendidly,
and lie too is building a tasty cottage
home.
The settlements are thick along the
road, anu another half mile In ings us
to tho home of Mr. D. W. Tyus, one
of the staunchest men nud most pro
gressive farmers in tho county. He
has 400 bushels of corn this year. He
lias plenty always. Next comes the
iarms of Messrs. T. N. Tyus and John
Duncan. Their cotton crop is espeei
ally fine, though tho other crops are
good. Then we pass the lane divid
ing the fnrm of Mr. W. G. Lewis.
We will return this way and will then
have more to say of Mr. Lewis’ home.
Mr. Mala Collins has a pleasant
home and a fine larm. His crops arc
up to the ustiul standard, which
saying they are as good ns tho best.
Mr. Joseph fe’as-cr has a splendid
farm, near Centennial church ; he
also running a barrel factory and
making money. .
Near Mr. Sasser’s we find the farm
of Mr. Sam Cossets, who Ls one of the
Very best farmers in tho county. All
of the surroitudings and appliances of
his home betoken prosperity.
After leaving Mr. Cassels it was
suggested that the party return
home. As we pass the farm ot Mr,
W. G. Lewis wo will say that the
county ought to be proud of it. He
always works to lie at the head, and
he generally is. On the road leading
to the Walden bridge, Mr. W. C
Lewis has n nice home and a prosper
ous fnrm. He is now busy at work
on a new gin house, which will he
ready for the season’s work. Near
him Mr. Lee Cliett has his faint, and
it lias been worked in a superb way,
His crops arc clear of gras-, and wi
yield well.
Mr. C. II. Eubanks conies next and
as lie is a hard worker and a good
farmer ho will make abundant crops
Mr. D. R. Collins comes next
He has 10 acres ot corn tlmt is by nil
odds the best we saw. His cotton
crop is promising ulso. There arc
two colored hoys on his place that
have the best crops we have seen owned
and cultivated by men of thoir race.
They serve ns a g ood example to
others of their color.
The crops of T. Zadock and John
West arc iu splendid condition, and
show wliat hard work will do.
Night came on nud stopped us, but
there are other farmers in the Mid
way neighborhood that havo crops
equally as good, and of which wo may
speak hereafter.

Congressman Turner in Cuthbert.
CurnnERT, Ga., July 15.—Hon.
H. G. Turner spoke here to-day to a
full house, mostly alliancemen. His
argument against the sub-treasury bill
was a convincing one, and was gener
ally complimented. He will undoubt

The second district would make
fatal mtstake in retiring Turner,
this grave juncture of national legisla
tion. The south is threatened with
another era of carpet bag rule, and
our best statesmen will be needed

Mr. W. O. Watson, president of
the Dougherty alliance, who was nom
inated by the alliancemen of nis

to run. He says that lie does not
believe that the order ought to become
a political one.

Blood Dlsca8o.
Blood diseases arc terrible on ac
count of their loathsome nature, and
the fact that they wreck the constitu
tion so completely unless the proper
antidote is applied. B. B. B. (Botan
ic Blood Balm) is composed of the
true antidote for blood poison. Its
use never fails to give satisfaction.
Mrs. Laura Hart, Beaufort, 8. C.,
writes: “A loathsome form of blood
poison was killing me. My appetite
was lost, my bones ached, and parts
of my flesh seemed as if it would come
ofl my bones. A friend brought mo
n bottle of B. B. B. The sores began
healing nt onto, and when I bad
taken two bottles I was surprised
at my rapid recovery.”
W. A. Bryant, Moody, Texas,
writes: "I had an agonizing caso of
Salt Rheum for four years, which
medicine I took only seemed to n|
gravnte until T found 15. B. B.
cured my hand, which resembles
burnt surface. It also cured my two
children of itch, which had resisted
previous treatment.”
