One of Georgia’s Famous
Springs -An Interesting
Letter.
Lithia Springs, )
July 1.3, 1800. j
Kdilor Tiuks-Kmeiii’sisk :
Some two months since, Dr. Wm.
I’cpptT, a distinguished physician of
Philadelphia, who is preparing for
publication a book on "Health Itc-
sorts and Mineral Springs of Ameri
ca," submitted t > me a number of
questions <m the subject. One of the
questions was:
‘ What Mineral Springs or baths of
established value exist in your State?
What are their chemical nature, and in
what diseases have you found their
use beneficial?’’
I very much regret having nuswer.
e l tlie Dr.’s question before visiting
Lithia Springs—far the reason that
after a personal inspection and inves
tigation, I find that I have failed to
report to him one half of the advan
tages and benefits to he derived from
the use of the water. In calling the
attention of the public to the Bro
mine Springs, our first duty is to show
the analysis made by Professor Pratt,
of Bromine Lithia Spring water. To
the imperial gallon, he finds
Magnesium Bromi io, grains
Potassium, “
in conjunction with
Lithium Bicarbonate,
Magnesium Iodide, grains
Strontium Sulphate, “
No analysis of the water of any
spring that has ever been discovered,
except the Bromine Lithia Spring at
this place, can show 20.52* grains of
Bromine to the imperial gallon.
Dr. Whitehead, an intelligent nud
educated gentleman, who is thorough
ly posted with his duties, and ever
ready to furnish any information
sought, is the medical officer. The
Dr. lmd tea years experience at the
Hot Springs, Arkansas, and tells me
that the treatment here is the same as
that practiced at tiie Hot Springs. He
was kind enough to post me with the
treatment, and to take me through the
hath rooms and explain to me how
and in what diseases the cold, the hot
and the electric bnths were used.
More than a year ago, in a letter to
Mr. Marsh, which lias been published
in a circular from the spring, I gave
it as my opinion that from the analy
sis of the water, it would prove a val-
uhlc remedial agent in the treatment
of many nervous diseases, often resist
ant mid unyielding to the usual medi
cal treatment, particularly iu cases of
insomnia. I am glad to see that Dr.
T. I). C'rnthcrs, in the April number of
the “Quarterly Journal of Inebriety,”
of which he is the editor, fully accords
with me in the opinion. He says:
"It is the only spring (Bromin-
Lithia,) known to science, which con
tains Bromido of Potassium and Mag
nesia. Although this water has been
very recently introduced, there are
many rensons why it will become
the most widely used of any medicinal
water known.
"Our personal experience in three
cnscs of rheumatism and neuralgia is
fwpm so far very satisfactory, and we hope
to announce in the future that at Icnst
a remedial water lias been found
which can he given to nervous ex
hausted cases witli great certainty r*
to results. It is perfectly clear under
any circumstances, that this water
will become a popular remedy, and
the Springs a famous resort in the near
future.”
I fully endorse this opinion and go
further, in predicting that it will be
come the Saratoga of the south.
It will he seen from the analysis
given, that in addition to the unpre
cedented amount of Bromine the water
contains, and upon which depends its
success in the treatment of Neurotic
diseases, it contains Lithium Bicar
bonate in larger quantities than that
of any other spring in the United
States. It is this constituent of the
water, from which so many favorable
results have occurred in the treatment
of diseases of the genito-urinary or
gans, kidneys, bladder, etc. I have
tested the water in some of these dis
eases with very satisfactory results.
I send you this letter for the inform
ation and benefit of our home people,
mauy of whom in summer leave home
in search of relief (mineral water,)
from rheumatism, neuralgia, nervous
troubles, kidney and bladder troubles,
and suggest to them that they
visit the Bromine Lithia Springs
before going further. The accoinnic
dations are excellent; the “Sweet Va
ter Hotel” is first-class in structure,
finish, furniture and management. It
accommodates 350 guests; it is lighted
by 750 incandescent lights; its lower
piazza nftords n walk of 700 feet; its
altitude is 1200 feet, and from the up
per verandas you get a fine view of
Kennesaw and Lost Mountain, and u
dim view of Stone Mountain Four
trains daily to and from Atlanta—dis
tant 20 miles—over the Georgia Fa
cific, arrive at and lrnvc the hotel
The dummy leaves the hotel every
hour for the springs, one a half miles
distant. At the springs there nrc
beautiful pavilions, one of which cost
860,000, At the bathing house there
arc two elegantly furnished parlors
for the reception of ladies and gentle
men. Terms at the Sweet Water, 850
to 8S0 per month, including music,
piano, and nil excellent string hand.
The sewerage and drainage of the ho
tel is absolutely perfect, nnd its fare
fully up to nny hotel in Atlanta.
The “Cook House” and “Unicom
House" arc new and nice looking
buildings, and are said to he well
kept. Terms, 830 per month. The
rapidly increasing popularity of this
spring water surprises me. It may
be said to he about three years old,
dating from the time Mr. Marsh erect
ed his elegant hotel here, and yet un
dcr the management ot Mr. Howland,
of New York, who is in charge of the
bathing department, the sales now ex
ceed 81000 per month, and are stead
ily on the increase. Since my arrival
here, two orders have been received
from firms iu New Orleans; one orders
0000 liottles, carbonated pints and
quarts; the other, 2000 half gallon
bottles pure water. It is on snle in
most of the large cities in the country.
They tell me to dav that the smaller
hotels nrc full. There nre 200 at this
hotel. As the Chautauqua opens to
morrow, we will soon be overrun.

Turner has ten votes secured, those of

so he only lacks ten. And he’ll get
them. Thomas will furnish four of
them, Colquitt two more, with Decatur,
Mitchell, Baker, Dougherty, and per
haps one or two other counties, to

Turner. His nomination, at this
writing, seems assured on the first
ballot. A few more days will tell the
tale.

Blood Disease.
Blood diseases arc terrible on ac
count of their loathsome nature, and
the fact that they wreck the constitu
tion so completely unless the proper
antidote is applied. B. B. B. (Botan
ic Blood Balm) is composed of the
true antidote for hlood poison. Its
use never fails to give satisfaction
Mrs. Laura Hart, Beaufort, S. C.
writes: “A loathsome form of blood
poison was killing me. My appetite
was lost, my bones ached, ana parts
of my flesh seemed as if it would come
of! ray bones. A friend brought me
a bottle of B. B. B. The sores began
healing at onco, and when I had
taken two bottles I was surprised
at my rapid recovery.”
W. A. Bryant. Moody, Texas,
writes: “I had an agonizing case of
Salt Rheum for four years, which
medicine I took only seemed to ag
gravate until I found B. B. B. It
cured my hand, which resembles a
burnt surface. It also cured my two
children of itch, which had resisted
previous treatment.”
Cholera infantum loses ijs terrors since the
introduction of Chamberlain’s Colic, Cholera
and Diarrhea Remedy. When that remedy
is used and the treatment os directed with
each bottle is followed, a cure is certain
Mr. A. W. Walter, a prominent merchant at
Wnltcrsburg, Ill, says: “Tt cured my baby
boy of cholera infantum after several other
remedies had failel. The child was so low
that he seemed almost beyond the aid of hu
man hands or reach of any medicine”
