(Staff Correspondent ;
Another twelve months has rolled
round, nnd another summer finds us
again at Cumberland.
Oh, Cumberland, sweet Cumberland,
Thou placid laud of summer cilms:
One dreams of quiet slumber Ian I,
While listening .o oM ocean's psalms.
The feeling that comes to so many
dwellers in cities, when summer
turns; a longing *t leave brick and
mortar, the din nnd hustle of the''
sui roundings, nnd to accept the dumb
invocation of the sea shote, to come
and enjoy its ninny attraction-
irresistnblc,[nntl so here we arc, fanned
by the cool breezes, nnd pi I sit by
the open window, the met.y conver
sation, and repartee of the guests out
such its mullet, whiting, trout, drum,
shccphend and groupers, while out at
the pass one can fish for bass with
splendid success. The bass is a large
and and gamy fish, and will not be
pulled in tamely, A parly of litre?,
of which one was n lady, who, by the
by captured unaided, two of the larg
est bass, caught seven of the big fish,
a few day ago. The aggregate weight
of the catch amounted to one hundred
and fifty pounds.
Another sport is the shooting of al
ligators and shore birds. Early every
morning before the crowd is up, the
alligators present a fine target for ri
fle practice, as they swim lazily about
in tlie iulct, Five were k''lcd in one

Nearly every day there arc '-ips
to Dungcncss, where ‘‘Light Horse”
Harry I 23 is buried, or to Feuandi-
na, one of Florida’s oldest and most ; i-
tercsting seaport towns. The town is
visible from the lower end of the : s-

families and spend a week.
The guests have been holding
services in the parlor, nnd that beau
tiful song "Near tny God to Thee”
comes wafted in from the distance.
